simple canned/wet food for kittens?

One of our new kittens has had diarrhea for two days, so he has a vet appointment tomorrow. In the meantime, is there a simple wet food I can feed him, or should I just boil some chicken and rice?

Is the Felidae chicken and rice OK, or the NB Limited Ingredients? Something else maybe?

I had been alternating on Blue Buffalo (Turkey/Chicken) and Avoderm when we first got him and he was fine. In the last week or so, I added Nutro Max Kitten and Merrick Lobster Boil to the rotation, so maybe it was those. Of course, there is the possibility of something else, hence the vet appointment. But I don't want to upset his stomach anymore in the meantime.

Any ideas would be great.

I tried Nutro canned a few years back on a couple of my cats, and have read it from others on here, with the end result being diarrhea. So that may have very well been the culprit.

Flip the cans over, avoid stuff like wheat flour, gluten, Meat by-products (the vague "meat" is the problem), and anything artificial.

I've not looked at a can of Felidae, but if it's simple enough it may be ok. The LIDs may be fine, though some cats don't do well on them so I wouldn't stock up. The before grain brand looks on the simpler side - but others will have to weigh in on if their touchy GI cats can tolerate it, too.

A few meals of home cooked is ok.

Lobster is another common culprit as many cats cannot handle crusteceans( shrimp , crab , lobster)

I would try just plain chicken breast and rice for a couple days( you can blend it to make canned).. this way you know exactly what is in it

Weird, I could have sworn that Nutro made a canned food without the wheat or by-products. I'm usually pretty anal about looking at labels. But now looking at their site, the kind I was feeding does have that that in it. Shoot. I didn't know about the crustaceans being either. Definitely taking those two brands out of the rotation.

I think I'll do the chicken and rice today and then see what the vet says. Thanks!

Most do not but if you served anything in a gravy or sauce wheat is a likely ingredient as only a few brands use potato or oat to thicken

From what I've read, I'd withhold food for half a day, then give a simple chicken and rice formula (various brands are fine), and give a probiotic (there are cat specific ones like Purina Fortiflora available at your vet or cheaper on amazon w/ 2day free shipping or human ones like acidophilus which I'd get a lower dosage kids one available in the health food section of most larger grocery stores refrigerated section). If you happen to have any canned pumpkin (not pie filling obviously), you can mix in a teaspoon w/ 3oz of wet w/ can firm things up. Since its been two days, I'd also do a scruff test and make sure kitty isn't dangerously dehydrated.

When one of my kittens had diarrhea really bad. My vet suggested making their food. He had me use KMR kitten replacement, cottage cheese, and baby rice cereal. It worked very well for my kittens.Helped them put on some weight and their poops got way better
