Ursodiol anyone?

Arthur has a bladder stone so the vet wants him on Ursodiol to disolve it.

Anyone have experience? It looks really pricey. Any suggestions on where to purchase?

Thanks

Call the pharmacies in town. It has a generic and that may be a cheaper alternative.

Now... I'm not really sure how it's supposed to work for a bladder stone? Ursodiol breaks up and helps prevent gallstones by blocking production/absorption of cholesterol. It's bile salts essentially. The bladder isn't even part of the biliary system…

In pill form it is (usually) a little bitter blue pill that can cause some stomach upset.

Oh! I'm sorry to hear you've been so sick. Get better soon.

I took it... 10? nearly 11 years ago ( doesn't seem that long ago!). It did start to really bother my stomach, which is why I stopped taking it. So you may want to ask the vet about that. Cats can't complain and tell you their stomach hurts, but you wouldn't want to deal with a nauseous kitty that doesn't want to eat.
I can't remember if it can be taken with food.

I only recall one other member who had their cat on it, but I think that kitty eventually needed surgery.
In humans, low fat can help, I have no idea what that would do for a cat since they do need fats.

I hope you can find a decent price on it. Despite that it's bitter, pill + pill pocket would probably be the most hassle free way to go. Maybe have the vet write out a script for 5 or 10 and see if that works before buying a full month supply?
