Can a topical wormer like Profender cause diarrhea??

I have started Walter on a probiotic b/c he didn't show positive to any worms, and his poop has been soft but not diarrhea and it had been getting better. Thomas' has been fairly normal. I applied Profender to both of them last night and now today they BOTH have the same smelly, runny diarrhea.

That's the only thing that has changed, other than I gave them a new type of wet food...shreds instead of pate, same brand...this morning. I thought wet foods were pretty interchangeable though, but could that have caused it?

Any ideas?? Other than a bit of conjunctivitis, they both checked out healthy at the vet yesterday.

I would call the vet about the profender ... anything is possible especially with kittens ..

My guess is there is wheat , corn or soy in the shredded wet that is not in the pate?

If they are sensitive to allergic diarrhea could come from that

The shreds did have wheat gluten and soy powder, whereas the pate has neither. I'll call the vet in the morning, but I think I'll stick to the pate for now just in case. Thomas didn't really like the shreds anyway. Walter did...but then again Walter is a pig and will eat anything. lol

I would call the vet, just incase it is a side effect. They'd be able to give you a different dewormer.

I looked at the information about Profender, and diarrhea is listed as a noted side effect. I guess I'll just keep an eye on it and if it doesn't get better in the next couple days I will call the vet.

Diarrhea is a fairly common side effect of wormers. I see it in my fosters all the time. It normally goes away in a day or two though. Some cats are sensitive to any changes in their diet too. I wouldn't worry about it unless it doesn't go away on its own.
