I recently had a serious medical issue that cost me everything I had in the bank; over $20K. Until then I always could afford vet care for my cat. Now I can't. He has developed some sort of gastrointestinal problem, and $350.00 later, no one can find the cause. Now they want to do biopsies, surgery etc. estimated at over $1,000.00 or $100.00 to put him down. Well, I guess we know which one I will choose...I won't watch him suffer, and I can't afford to
treat him further. I read the comment on this site related to cost of vet care...I don't think even if I stop eating completely I can afford his surgery.

When I had the money, I have paid for other people's vet care. Why doesn't some organization take this up as a cause? Not everyone who can't afford vet care smokes or drinks up all their money!

Hi,
I am sorry you are going through this, I really am... Specially because I am going through pretty much the same thing - aside from the fact that my vet is not telling me to do a biopsy. But my cat has had Diarrhea now for the last 77 days, My vet bills were over $1300 for the last 2 moths, and we are not over the hill yet.
But I also see that this is your very first post... And instead of telling us what your cats problems are, and seeing if some of us have some ideas that might in fact help you, or perhaps guide you to some sort of solution, you come full of rocks to throw at us...
We don't know who you are... We don't know the first thing about you or your cat or your history, or anyone for that matter over the internet, and for that we have that post up. It is not to be taken personally by any means...
There are hundreds of members here ready to help and lend a hand, but you have to let us...
There might be other solutions for your cat besides the ones you listed above, but you need to be able to take a deep breath and open yourself up to receive help... We will be glad to assist you anyway we can...
Coincidentally, there are quite a few cats going through gastrointestinal problems here right now, and I think you might benefit from sticking around- I hope you do -

There was no assumption about everyone smoking or drinking away their money. I just saw tips on how to put a little extra money away so that you aren't suddenly burdened with a large bill and not a penny to put towards it.
Everyone knows there are sometimes circumstances where the money is not there and for a good reason, but it was just suggesting that if you are willing to take on the responsibility of a pet, then you should do your best to be ready in case an emergency pops up. Even if its just a few dollars here and there.

Like Carolina said, there are people here with MANY years of cat experience. It is very likely someone here can help you out if you take the time you share your cats history and current problem. Whatever you choose, I hope it all works out for you and your kitty cat.
