Right. It's so easy to read on. I really like that it's not backlit, I really think that would hurt my eyes as much as I read. I was shocked to see how much it looks like a 'real' book after getting mine. It's awesome!

Ahh! I'm so excited to find out that my library participates in lending books out for the Nook! (and possibly other e-readers, not sure).

When we first got my Nook, my husband thought it was a demo screen when I turned it on because it looked so much like a real page of a book rather than something electronic!

We could start our own little TCS book club and trade books!
You can get used Kindles on Amazon, but they're not much cheaper than a new one. Now that the third generation is out, you should be able to get the second one fairly cheaply.

I think I seriously want a Kindle 3 (and got some Amazon gift certificates for Christmas) - but wonder - it sounds as those most public libraries don't support Kindle (or vice versa) and I could get into serious budget trouble buying everything. Isn't there a way to get Overdrive to work with Kindle?

Also, how is websurfing with the Kindle 3, the one with the free wifi? Reasonable? I've got a 45 minute train commute and would love to read and check the internet - I somehow got the impression you could do that, as well as load music onto the Kindle - is that right?. Right now I think the IPad is a little expensive and heavy for what I want.\\

Thanks so much

I've got the Kindle 2 (international version), and can do some simple web surfing, meaning it (sometimes) works over here for text-only sites. I haven't tried downloading music. I imagine the Kindle 3 has much better capabilities, because I see my nephew sharing things on Facebook with his Kindle 3.

To keep within my book budget, I read a lot of classics and look for special offers on new e-books. Usually if you wait till they've been out for a couple of weeks or months the price goes down, too.

Would you be better off with a smartphone and an unlimited data plan? You could surf faster, download free e-reader apps, and of course listen to music. I've got an hour-long one-way commute, and find the phone is more than sufficient for that.

Thanks for the suggestion - I do need to look into a smart phone. So far I've been hanging on to my old dumb cell phone (hey, it does work to call Triple A!), but I suppose prices for data plans have been going down as well. A good resolution - we get discounts through my employer, so I need to look at that, and I know I've passed my contract period...now, of course, the dreaded pick a vendor and a phone choice!!!

Maybe somebody here could recommend a good plan and provider, or your current provider might give you a good upgrade.
