I bought a pink case for my Nook from Amazon that has a pocket in the front, and came with a car charger and protective screen cover. For $13! The case can double as a purse for me if I just am bringing my phone and cash or credit card somewhere with me where I'll have a wait (dr office, vet, whatever!)

I guess I could use it for audiobooks, but it'd be easier to carry my tiny Sansa Clip mp3 player around in that case.

The Kindle is supposed to also be coming out with a new feature to allow you yo lend books to others, with similar restrictions to the Nook (14 day period, can't lend the same book to the same person more than once.)
I'll send you a message about Swag Bucks!

And that would be really awesome if they did the same as the Nook & let us share books with others

I was just going to post that!http://www.amazon.com/Kindle-Wireles...atures-lending
Later this year, we will be introducing lending for Kindle, a new feature that lets you loan your Kindle books to other Kindle or Kindle app users. Each book can be lent once, for a period of 14 days. Not all books will be available to lend - the publisher or rights holder determines which titles are enabled for lending.

My niece and nephew both have Kindles now, so I can see us trading e-books.

Have you discovered the limited time offers in the Kindle store? You have to check regularly to see what books they're offering for free. There are some cookbooks right now.

So I wonder how the new e-trading option will work. Would it be something that we would have to download from Amazon?

And yes, I love the limited time offers! I've downloaded several, along with a few cookbooks.

No, they're not, so it's very much like reading a regular book, and easy on the eyes. I've got the Kindle app on my smartphone and on my laptop, and it's harder on the eyes because they're backlit.

We could start our own little TCS book club and trade books!

Right. It's so easy to read on. I really like that it's not backlit, I really think that would hurt my eyes as much as I read. I was shocked to see how much it looks like a 'real' book after getting mine. It's awesome!

Ahh! I'm so excited to find out that my library participates in lending books out for the Nook!
(and possibly other e-readers, not sure).

When we first got my Nook, my husband thought it was a demo screen when I turned it on because it looked so much like a real page of a book rather than something electronic!

You can get used Kindles on Amazon, but they're not much cheaper than a new one. Now that the third generation is out, you should be able to get the second one fairly cheaply.

I think I seriously want a Kindle 3 (and got some Amazon gift certificates for Christmas) - but wonder - it sounds as those most public libraries don't support Kindle (or vice versa) and I could get into serious budget trouble buying everything. Isn't there a way to get Overdrive to work with Kindle?

Also, how is websurfing with the Kindle 3, the one with the free wifi? Reasonable? I've got a 45 minute train commute and would love to read and check the internet - I somehow got the impression you could do that, as well as load music onto the Kindle - is that right?. Right now I think the IPad is a little expensive and heavy for what I want.\\

Thanks so much

I've got the Kindle 2 (international version), and can do some simple web surfing, meaning it (sometimes) works over here for text-only sites. I haven't tried downloading music. I imagine the Kindle 3 has much better capabilities, because I see my nephew sharing things on Facebook with his Kindle 3.

To keep within my book budget, I read a lot of classics and look for special offers on new e-books. Usually if you wait till they've been out for a couple of weeks or months the price goes down, too.

Would you be better off with a smartphone and an unlimited data plan? You could surf faster, download free e-reader apps, and of course listen to music. I've got an hour-long one-way commute, and find the phone is more than sufficient for that.

Thanks for the suggestion - I do need to look into a smart phone. So far I've been hanging on to my old dumb cell phone (hey, it does work to call Triple A!), but I suppose prices for data plans have been going down as well. A good resolution - we get discounts through my employer, so I need to look at that, and I know I've passed my contract period...now, of course, the dreaded pick a vendor and a phone choice!!!

Maybe somebody here could recommend a good plan and provider, or your current provider might give you a good upgrade.
