Back to the Vet with Callie :(

Callie made it through the weekend, but she's not back to "normal" by any means. She ate better on Saturday, but yesterday evening she started to refuse food again. She's been drinking, but not nearly as well as prior to all this. She's also started to have tremors and shake like she's scared or nervous. She's used the litter box, but hasn't had nearly the "normal" production.

So, we're going to have the full blood panel done as well as talk to the vet about an appetite stimulant, something to settle her tummy (Pepcid maybe?), and her potassium level in addition to her BUN and Creatinine levels.

This has been such a difficult weekend! I've cried more than I have in the last month.

My husband is getting ready to take her. We'll leave her there for a few hours for them to draw blood and maybe give her fluids and such then pick her up.

Here's the link to the original thread: http://www.thecatsite.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=225299

I *think* what's causing the problem is that we've been giving her a few morsels of TOTW as a treat and this is causing her stomach to get upset. She's not throwing up, just experiencing food aversion. She wants to eat, just doesn't.

She's home from the vet where she got jabbed for a blood draw. They're doing a big blood work up and will hopefully have some results for us this afternoon. She came home with an appetite stimulant (cyproheptadine, 4mg) and canned k/d and i/d. We've tried the canned k/d in the past and it's been a no-go. We'll see if we can't syringe feed her some. Right now, we're trying to get a raw scrambled egg in her via syringe. So far she's had 2ml of that.

Upon getting out of her carrier, she went straight to the food eating area and told me she wanted something to eat! Now, she's laying in her heated bed and trying to avoid the other pests (Hannah and Tumbles). They're pretty much leaving her alone, but Tumbles is very curious about where she's been and is trying to smell her. She just hisses at him!

We also have instructions to give her Pepcid, 1/4 tablet once a day or every other day as needed. The husband picked up the Pepcid and baby food prior to picking her up.

Thanks for the link. I did see it when you first posted, but didn't post a reply so didn't keep following it.

Hope Callie is feeling better soon.

I can understand how you feel. Done my share of crying over my kitties health lately too.

Lets hope all these tests will finally give you an answer. They should

Vibes for Callie and you. Try to relax. I am.

Tons of for Callie!

I hope everything turns out ok for Callie at the vet!
Oh good, you are back home! Did the vet say anything at all?
Well, did the Vet hazard a guess as to what the "tremors" might be caused by? My own Callie sometimes does this, and she's done it for years...no known reason. I notice it at night when she's sleeping next to my pillow. It's like she starts shivering, only it's not cold in the house. I mentioned it to our Vet, and she has no idea what it could be, but our Callie is healthy as a horse (hope I'm not jinxing anything here )

Anyway, that's she's just going thru a phase OR it really IS just because you gave her some of the TOTW treats and it upset her tummy.

You know, I think I just misinterpreted the earlier post about Callie coming home from the vet and wanting to be fed. Probably because in my case that would be a VERY good sign. However, upon going back and re-reading a little more carefully, I do see that there is still a lot up in the air.

I do hope Callie did well for the rest of the day and that the results from the vet give you some answers (but good ones)!

Sorry folks, I had to go to work. (Really interrupts my computer time! ) The vet only drew blood this morning, didn't see Callie. We don't have the results back yet, so I'm expecting a call in the morning from the vet.

Mark's been force feeding her today. She's not had much to eat, but she did just have a nice drink of water. She used the litter box a bit ago and produced a pee puddle and some poop. Things are still moving, just much slower than normal.

Mark gave her 1/4 pepcid late this afternoon. I don't think it's had any effect at all. She tried to eat a few crunchies when I got home from work a little bit ago, but she didn't. She did jump up in my lap for a little snuggle & to drink out of my glass of water. That's a good sign.

She's not grooming herself or anything like that, so I know she's feeling horrible.

Small update:

I woke to Callie jumping up on the bed and snuggling with me this morning! She'd gotten up and used the litter box and then came down the hall like a normal morning. When I got up, she followed me into the bathroom as normal. She didn't pester me to hurry up and get finished so she could use the toilet to jump up onto the counter for her morning drink, so she might have already gotten a drink or she might not have been thirsty. She ate a couple of morsels on her own, but wouldn't touch the wet food. Mark force fed her the wet food so she could get all her meds. We also gave her some pepcid about 20 mins prior to feeding her. She's gotten some water on her own and is now being brushed while laying on the afghan on top of the heated throw (which is on). Getting lots of lovins from her Daddy this morning!

Still waiting on a call from the vet regarding her bloodwork and a course of action.

So glad she's feeling better.
