Is this amount of affection normal?

Lately all Midnight does is lap Luna's head and face, all the time. Eventually she has had enough, and pushes him away. He doesn't take the hint. He just laps her harder. Eventually she screams, we break them apart. This is constant all day, and night. I know cats groom each other, but is this much normal?

Also Midnight will start lapping Luna's ear, then he'll begin biting and chewing her ear. Is this affection or an attack?

I don't know about the overgrooming, but my kitten will frequently bite and nibble on my other cat's neck when they're play fighting. He'll walk up, start licking, then chomp down on some neck skin. My other cat doesn't act like he's being attacked viciusly, so I think it's mostly an affection thing.

It starts off as play affection, but then Luna will start screaming. So I don't know if Midnight's just to rough? or he is trying to hurt her. They are very rough when they play. They always were. Which was 1 of the reasons we kept them seperated for so long.

Partial affection and it's part dominance forcing the other cat to hold still as the groomer puts their scent all over them.
