Chickster Update (FHS)

The other thread got so long I thought I'd just pop one up here for those keeping up. She's been doing great, but still issues with the regular pooping schedule.

I've figured out a couple of her triggers, one of which is obviously her constipation/unwillingness to go poo and the other one is our big tubby Boca, who stays in the outside sunroom, which has two doors between us and him, a clear glass one and a big regular house door. We keep the house door open a lot of the time. It's warm out there, he's happy, but if she catches a glimpse of him out there, she gets irritated and starts smelling of everything. If I've gone and touched him or petted him and forget to wash my hands, she'll get very annoyed smelling him on me.
That stems back to when I was trying to introduce them and things seemed to be going well, until she suddenly had a fit, attacked her own tail and from about 6 feet away Boca pounced on her and they tumbled around for a second. I don't know that they'll ever like each other now.

Anyway, things are going well! She's just been sleepin' and watching the snow!
Merry (belated) Christmas everyone!

I'm glad Chickster is doing ok. She's lucky to be watching the snow. I can't wait for Luna and Midnight to see snow!

She was freaked out when the wind blew and the snow went everywhere, and the branches scraped on the window. Her tail smacking kept me up for an hour LOL.

I have unfortunately jinxed things and she is having a fit now. It's a pretty bad one. She started licking on a plastic bag, and licked for a good 5 minutes, and it really started grating on my nerves so I gently herded her away from the plastic bag. Then, a small fit under the bed. I gave her some miralax, which only proved to worsen the fit and now she's having one of the harsher ones, going into about 5 minutes now, and is ending.
This is really starting to get on my nerves, the prozac doesn't seem to have any real effect, ... she sleeps a lot on the bed, way more than I sleep, urgh, just confused! But we just leave her be and try not to bother her when she's having one now, and she straightens it out on her own by getting into a small spot where her hind end is kind of pinned so she can't get to it. *shrugs* I do not know, she has done well all this past week. Still not mutilating herself, so all I can do is keep an eye on her for now.

Some days she gags on her medicine like it's choking her (Which is NOT the case) and really drama-queens it up, foams and spits and it's SUCH a mess, and some days it really doesn't matter. Vet is still right. Enigma.

BUT, it could be worse, and she is doing very well for the most part. Thanks for the vibes, I am hoping she poops soon (She has had plenty of miralax)

Well, at least she is able to "control" her fits herself now, it seems (by moving herself into a "safe spot". That's pretty smart, if you ask me.

I forget, is her medicine in pill form? Are you coating it in butter or anything so she can't really taste it? That might help with the occasional foaming, etc.

to both of you!

Yes, pill form. I've been cutting her half into halves and giving her 2 1/4 pills, (easier for her to swallow) I've tasted the pill, it's not bitter, it's actually pretty salty. Thing is, she doesn't always have the foaming problem with the pill. It's beef flavor and a chewable (for dogs). I swear I think she's just acting up when I give it to her sometimes, because it is not every single time does she foam. Rarely or when she's already ticked off.. She's on the bed suckin' on her toe and totally happy now. And yes, she is smart to get in a small place (Behind the sofa, crinkle tunnel, under my bed which just got put on a bed frame, nice, now she has a new place to hide :T)

Along with being triggered by Boca and/or bad tones in my voice when I'm conversating with Mom, I think Chickster possibly has fleas. I took a flea comb to her tail where she attacks (the tip) and came out with small black dots. I brushed her all over and didn't get one single flea, but the black dots were on her tail. SO, I will be getting some flea meds very soon from the vet and we'll see if that doesn't help. I know 1 flea can cause a world of problems for a cat especially if they're allergic. She didn't have fleas even when I first got her, I believe. Don't believe it's scabs. So. Just a quick update I went to a friend's house for New Years who has tons of cats and kittens and a dog, and returned home to Chickster sticking her nose in the air as if I'd cheated on her with a football team or something She's sleeping now.

Happy New Years to everyone!

I'm sorry, that had me in stitches!

Oh my goodness, you're getting sooooo close with her - what if the flea med helps finish this for good?!?!?!?!

I don't know anything about treating fleas, etc., but are you checking with the Vet or getting the flea medication from the Vet? It's just that I keep reading bad things about OTC flea medications (here on this site), and since Chickster is already having some issues, I'd hate to see them compounded with ill effects from this. Plus, I worry that since you don't actually see any fleas, that she's really got them. Didn't Boo have Studtail? Could those black dots be that (or do only males get that?) (I sometimes think Darko may have it, but he's a black cat, so I can't tell, just know he licks his tail alot)

How's our Chickster doing? Did you get the frontline plus? (or revolution or advantage) Did treating for fleas help?

Please update us!

PS...Tolly sulks if I come home smelling like strange cat too. He is used to me smelling like certain cats, but if ever I come home smelling like a cat he is not used to smelling I get the Back turned toward me.

Once when I was at my mothers she had an emergecny with a cat and I went with her to the vet. That night I cam home smelling like strange cat and like strange VET.

I was persona non grata to ALL the cats for many hours. Really I should ahve just gone and curled up in a hole, the way they were acting, LOL.

That is so funny...I was wondering the same thing, but then got off on something else and forgot to ask. Glad we are all on the same wavelength

Snickerdoodle has not been in to update us on Chickster in a long time. I PMd her a couple times as I've been worried about her, but have received no reply.

I was hoping she had her email notifications turned on and PMd her too. I guess she doesn't (have email notification turned on).

Hope all's OK.
