It's not snowing yet, but we're supposed to get a foot by tomorrow. I'm not one of those people who - at this point in my life LOL - enjoys the snow!

We've been REALLY lucky and pretty much avoided it so far this year! We've had flurries here and there, and a touch of snow on the ground that didn't need shoveling and melted the next day.

Apart from the snow - I'm just REALLY not into the wind, gusting up to 40mph. I didn't wear gloves putting food and water out for the ferals this morning, and my fingers were nearly numb within just a couple of minutes. And, of course, we worry about the kitties. I'm pretty sure this is the first winter for three of them.

I know how you feel about the ferals....but they have eachother for body warmth at least. And you feeding them is wonderful.. I did it for many years.

I saw on the weather you guys were in for some snow. Its going to warm up here this week mid 40's and rain. Man, we could use a break.

Stay safe everyone.

We only feed as long as we're TNRing too.

As to the weather... we're that place in NJ where when on New York weather reports they say "there will be more accumulation north and west of the city."

My grandma was telling me as much as she loves snow, she hates the wind as well.

I'm enjoying the 5½" of snow we got here in NC (and it's flurrying down in the Charleston area), but wouldn't mind another foot It would guarantee me an extra day off from work

Stay safe

We're supposed to get a ton of snow tonight. I can't wait! I'll finally be able to see Luna and Midnight's reactions!!!

It's been snowing for about 45 minutes here. We're due to get at least 8-12". Glad I'm on vacation this week, so I don't have to drive anywhere today or tomorrow!

I'm enjoying being comfy indoors right now. I've started a fire, and made a big pot of chilli!

Join the club! This was in yesterday's NYT: Bundle Up, It’s Global Warming
I guess that means snowier winters for lots of people.

Well, we got to the store, got a little bit of shopping done - and THEN Gary noticed the lines! (He doesn't usually come inside with me). Major panic attack later, we're home having not gotten a lot of stuff - including bread.

Interestingly, the store is only about 10 miles away, but there was more snow on the ground within about a mile of where we live than in town.

There were kitty foot prints heading to the RV from the woods and then under the porch from the RV (we have under the porch protected from the wind), so someone was by for another meal while we were out.

Same here - oh, I don't mind a little dusting, its pretty, it doesn't stick to the roads, and it goes away quick. We got about 6.5 right now, started last night and snowed most of the day. I think its stopped now. The problem I have is that any little bit of snow just brings everything to a screeching halt. And people just don't seem to know how to drive in it - despite most of us in this area being transplants from the north.

Oh well, I didn't really have anywhere I needed to go today, but I hope I can get out tomorrow to at least get a few groceries that I didn't get last week.

Good luck with your snow - hopefully you won't get as much as a foot and it will clear out quick

It is strange - we're not the type to run to the store because there's a storm coming (normally). But snow - and sometimes lots of it - is normal up here. They were already salting the roads on our drive home, and the snow plows are lined up under the highway overpass.... everyone knows how to deal with it! So it was weird to see the store so packed!

I am so glad I am not the only one bewildered by that...lol..

WOW! Over 400 buses got stranded in NY, cars are stranded everywhere all over the highways - they're just getting some of them out now. Snow drifts from the wind are up to five feet. They got over 20 inches in CENTRAL PARK, and JFK, LaGuardia, and Newark airports are all still CLOSED. As of 8:30am this morning, one of the major highways from NJ to NY hadn't even been plowed yet!

I think the problem this time was not that it's "just" snow - it was blizzard conditions in a lot of places a lot of the time. Gusts were up to 60mph, and sustained winds were 20+ mph.

The blizzard over there has made the news here - it looks really bad! I understand there are areas without any power, either. that no more comes down, and a thaw is in sight!

They had to evacuate people in Massachussetts because of the storm surge (coastal) - which also resulted in fires in a number of homes, and chunks of people in several counties in NJ are without power. I don't know if they've got it back up yet or not.

The pressure systems basically look like a hurricane on land, and another record low was set for millibars on land in the U.S. The "hurricane on land" that hit the midwest in October saw lows of 953 - in this one, it got down to 936.

Gary's head has been imploding without let-up.

I'm sorry to hear that. Now that you mention it, has anybody ever said that moving to a different climate (like the Southwest) would help him? I know of people who've moved away from SE Germany because the "Föhn" (hot winds from Africa) always gave them headaches. That's not the same thing as cluster headaches, obviously, but maybe NJ aggravates them?

the entire time we have been just praying not to lose power as our house is done up with space heaters this year. its about 50-60 in house depending on room and electric blankets all around for us and cats. so far so good
Husband worked from home and had taken tomorrow off long while ago so he got a nice long vacation.
We are out of milk bread and few other things but have plenty of other things. And to say my mom is one of those stockpiling at the last minute...skipped a generation I guess. Making chana masala (chana is chickpea masala is spice) so house smells great. As long as I get to the store tomorrow to get soda alls right in the world.

I have one cat outside I am worried about but couldnt get him inside cause he lets me pet him and pick him up some days and last night wasn't one of them. I am pretty sure hes under the shed and know the cats lived many years under there and seemed to do ok(including newborns) The lady is cool she don't like cats but has no issue with them all living under there and yelled at her son when he told her to close it off. I moved in and got any cat fixed and let it out(or ummm kept a few...)

Oh about the headaches jcat My moms friend/lymes disease support group leader moved to arizona(or that area) for arthritis relief and was blessed with relief from headaches to. Moms had lyme few years after moving from north nj to the shore area(since about 90) I often wonder if it would help her but she won't move out of state. I am supposed to go have some tests to figure out why mine got so bad in last years arthritis is possible(have it in other spots).

Gary sure is a strong man I have seen the toll constant pain takes with my mom and the daily life(she goes to bed days on end) Anyone who can endure so much for so long without breaks is IMO

Actually, apparently being near the equator does help.

Catsallaround - your power hangs in there. I think the worst has passed in most places, but that wind is still vicious, so power lines/poles are still at risk.

Hope your outside kitty is OK! I went out a little a while ago to put out hot wet food and chicken broth and meowed at the top of my lungs, hoping to be heard over the wind.

We had one that hunkered down every storm, so we learned not to see her until things had calmed down. We only have one feral here this year that was here last year (and it was her first winter and she lived somewhere right around here - and it was a pretty easy winter), so don't know their patterns are (yet).

There are a lot more kitty tracks around now, so I think some of them got some hot food and liquid. (We also have a heated water bowl under the RV which has done a FABULOUS job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

So far so good

I heated up the last can of tuna(its a VERY rare treat) and shoveled around my car...I stacked the snow around the car and made one side the entrance so hes got a huge igloo. He came up and I let him in house to warm up(he walked right in!!!!) and then he demanded to be let out. I also heated up some fancy feast in microwave(hmmm wrong move as husbands home) I like the idea of broth I am now planning to grab a turkey or chicken tomorrow at shoprite. I wish he wasnt so terrified still. The mom I hope is in a home. I know someone takes good care of her as she goes away for long periods of time and comes home just as fat and smells of a house and cigarettes.
This reminds me of back in 99 we had a storm I had JUST trapped a feral about 5-6 months and a day later the mom could barely walk through the snow. I was thinking how lucky we are at this point to have all the outside cats TNRed and no new ones I have seen who had to go through this

I hope everyone is OK...we had one here in Ohio that lasted two days and our county got hit pretty hard...about two feet. Driving home from work in it was scary to say the least.
