Kitten health concerns, URGENT

Thread Starter
So it's Christmas time and my neighbors 2 houses down from me just moved out yesterday. They have this 3 month old kitten and a bunch of other cats and a dog. I hang out with them once in awhile and when I see the kitten it's usually laying there and looks sad or something. Well I find out that one of the neighbors abuses the kitten. I was worried so I went over there just to see the kitten and figure out what was going on, I walked in and the one of the roommates was in his room just beating on the poor kitten, and I mean seriously beating. Not to the point where it would die or anything close to it but I felt so bad. I ended up taking the kitten when they were in the living room and I took it home without them knowing.

Currently I have everything it needs, fresh water and kitten food, blankets and kitten bed for it because I decided im going to keep it.

Is there anything I can do to help it beside give it love. I know it will take time, but I'm looking for a few tips on things I could do right away beside taking it to the vet because everything looks fine and he isn't limping plus I'm a college student and I don't have the money right now to take it to the vet.

If you guys could help me on what to do that would be amazing, I know it's christmas but I wanna help him out tonight.

Thank you all for reading and helping

Really there's nothing else you can do besides what you're already doing. You did a wonderful thing bringing that poor kitten into your home. Just make sure he/she? is warm, has lots of available food, and water, and has a litterbox to go in. Watch it for a couple days, make sure no ailments start tomorrow, as bruises often need some time to form and become sore to the point of limping. If all is well the next couple days, you're all set and congratulations on your new kitten! Thanks for helping this little guy.

PS make sure to find out if this kitten is spayed/neutered (check for a spay scar, ot testes) . If the owners were abusive, they might not have taken proper care of the kitten, and if it gets out it can start breeding at 4 months.

BLESS YOU!!!! You're definitely an angel! Only other thing I would suggest is getting it to a vet ASAP to have it examined for any possible internal injuries. Also, you should report the person for animal cruelty. Too bad you didn't record the incident, but you got that precious baby out of that horrible situation and that's what counts.

Thank you for taking in this poor baby! I would report them to the appropriate authorities for animal abuse, too, but then you COULD possibly get mixed up into the whole "She stole our cat" thing, can she make an anonymous call? That is all I would be worried about... and if it were me I'd rather keep the cat under wraps and not let anyone (the evil ones) know I had the cat. Poor baby!!!

Bless you you're an angel for taking her/him in!! Give him lots of hugs and head bumps from us!!

Bless you for taking in this poor baby - other than providing plenty of kitten food and water, and just being there for the little one, there's little to suggest. Let him come to you at his pace if he seems timid - just sit in the same room, read to yourself, just let him realize that one human after all won't hurt him.

However, and I know it's tough - you do need to line a vet up and soon. Find one you can get too easily, that has good hours for you, that you feel comfortable with. A lot of vets will do a 'new kitten' check for free - any shots, etc., of course, are extra, and it's understood you'd continue to use the vet. In your case, there may be internal injuries, he may not have gotten any normal kitten care, and there will be the issue of neutering, if he hasn't been fixed. And, when you're a regular client, it's easier to get an urgent appointment if ever you need one.

Tell the vet your story - she may be willing to work with you.

But bless you again - you're the spirit of Christmas.

One thing...make sure the original owner has absolutely no clue that you took the kitten. Someone who abuses a kitten might very well abuse a human.

I think what you did is really heroic, but I worry that if you're found out that it could be a major deal legally anyway... be very careful until you know you're safe.

And that's all the Debbie downer I'm going to be.

It sounds like you may have saved this kitten's life. At the very least you're giving him/her a lot of love s/he never had before.

You said the neighbors just moved out. Did they leave the kitten behind? Or had you already taken it before they left? Maybe they didn't even notice it was gone.

I'll just echo the thanks that everyone had given,

I have the same question as goldycat have your neighbours now left? Without realising the kitten had gone?

How is the kitten doing today? Do you have a boy or girl? A name? Pictures?
