Can they sense when we're not feeling well?

Today, I was under the weather and Tony was extra cuddly. I was laying on the sofa and he laid on my lap the whole day.
I couldn't even pet him, because i was cold and was under the blanket, but he was sound asleep anyway.

i just thought it was so interesting how calm and affectionate he was today.

I think many cats do know when we're emotionally or physically stressed - whether we smell different, or act different, I'm not sure - but when I've been ill I've been surprised at how 'nurse kitty' mine are - although, they still wanted to be fed!!!

Hope you're feeling better soon.

Mine tend to cuddle around me more when I'm sick or stressed. When my hubby went to Maine for a weekend (first weekend apart in 4+ years), they stayed around me, almost tucked against me whenever I was in bed or on the couch.

When I'm sick, I notice that they all seem to cuddle against me in bed then too, and spend time on the couch with me more than usual.

I know for sure when I am not feeling well Maia is on top of it, literally! On top of me, or at least at my side, making sure I am ok......Then as soon as I am, she is all about getting her personal space back

Hope you're feeling bettter soon! Not only do they know we're not feeling well, but they seem to sense where it hurts. Following surgery in October, I was afraid Jamie would have to be locked out of the bedroom at night because he sleeps on top of me. It wasn't necessary, because he slept beside me with his head on my hip and jumped up on the coffee table so I could get his harness on and off and comb him. He did that without being asked and for weeks.

Awww, all these stories are so cute!

Yeah, I thought so, but of course, the boyfriend thought I was nuts, lol. I haven't had a cat since childhood, but I specifically remember her always cuddling with me when my parents were fighting and I would hide out in my room. I guess I figured she was scared too, but looking back, she was an indoor/outdoor cat and really could have just left if she was scared.

My Tony is precious... he means so much to me and I've only had him three months. I like thinking about the many years we'll have together and the fact that even after three months, he knew something was bothering me enough to keep me company.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone!

Some cats are more knowing than others. When Hydrox, the Old Coot, was alive, he knew when I needed him. When DH was so ill in the hospital, Hydrox was by my side the entire time I wasn't at the hospital. He'd lay on my chest or in my lap and he'd look at me with those golden eyes and I knew he was telling me that it was going to be OK. And it was.

Banshee, another Rainbow baby and my heart kitty, knew when things were wrong, too, but she wasn't as "in tune" as Hydrox was. Maybe it was because Hydrox was 20 when he passed away, so he had more time with us. I don't know.

Cats do know when we're sick or sad. Lynxx always knew. Midnight knows, he's been comforting me every time I've cried over Lynxx. Midnight will climb on me, I'll hold him, and he'll start purring super loud. His purr is very comforting.

Speck worries and frets when DH or I am sick. He was just a kitten when I was admitted to the hospital for nine days. When I got home, he was my sweet constant companion, suspending his rough kitten play until I got better. He is also very concerned about the other cats in the household. He is a cat of few words, but once I heard this loud mournful meowing that wouldn't stop. I assumed it was Siamie, who is part Siamese and talks all the time. When I went to see what was wrong, I found Speck standing anxiously at the bathroom door. It was him that was carrying on so. Siamie was in the bathroom, coughing and gagging. Speck stopped meowing when he saw that I was on the scene. Siamie is the only cat that is allowed outside and Speck will also meow if he knows she's at the door wanting back in. If he hears her and we don't, he'll make sure we are aware.

There was this cat at the vet's I used to work at who would come and rub against me after a client yelled at me a couple times (It as the same client too, they were having a bad day, it wasn't me doing a bad job I swear! ). I was shaken after and Ben would come love on me almost insistently.

Jacob my kitten will jump up on me and snuggle/rub against me when I am depressed and crying.

and on a non-cat note, my dog (when I am depressed and crying) will sit by me and keep giving me her paw and will scrunch her face up like she is crying to as if to say "it's ok mommy I am here and crying with you and will be your best friend and try to make you feel better as long as you need me" Which often makes me cry harder LOL
