Yesterday morning I finished up this year's work as one of Santa's elves. (I drive a truck for Toys R Us.) My last store was the Katy Mills store in Katy, TX. I dropped their loaded trailer and picked up their empty one, then went in the store. It was 2 a.m., but the parking lot was about half full and there were plenty of shoppers inside.

We call this the "Silly Season," or just, "The Season." Our normal cadre of 26 drivers is supplemented by about 60 temps and seasonals. We use just about all our legal hours, and even then there are always missed loads and deliveries. But we had a safe season, no major accidents, and the stores look like they've done a great job. In October, 2009, Wal-Mart said their goal last year was to put us out of business, but that hasn't happened, not by a long ways.

Last night, Carolina came over with my SS gifts. We had a great visit, and Flambe stole another heart. (He seriously needs to be adopted by a lonely person; he is more company than you can imagine.)

We just got home from breakfast at Waffle House, one of the few restaurants open on Christmas Day. We gave our waitress a generous tip, and then gave the manager another $20 bill to divide among all the workers who had to be there this morning. It felt good to be able to help out other people.

So, I hope you got whatever you wanted for Christmas, you gave your loved ones gifts fully wrapped and covered in love, and the coming New Year will be better than this one, no matter how good or bad this one has been.

Merry Christmas! So far it's been a quiet one here. The in-laws came for dinner last night, since hubby had to work today. We've gotten about 8.5" - 9" of snow just today, so the main pastime has been shoveling snow.
