Our two kittens are about 13 weeks old. I've been free feeding Taste of the Wild dry food, because that's what my adults eat, but they aren't eating it. The male will nibble on it when he starts to get hungry, but not a lot. It's like they know that they'll be getting canned food, so they hold out. They'll eat some of it if I sprinkle it on their canned food, but mostly they just eat around it.

My question is, should I try to feed them a different dry food? Maybe they just don't like this kind, or the kibble is too big?

At first I thought it would be easier to feed all 4 cats the same food, but I am doing scheduled feedings now because the adult female is slightly overweight. Since I do scheduled feedings and I feed the kittens in a separate room, they can probably have different food anyways. (I feed the kittens 3-4 times a day).

They all get about 2/3 of their diet as wet food. The kittens obviously get more wet, since I'm having trouble getting them to eat the dry.

thanks for any ideas.

I'm not too sure about your cats but it took my kittens a very long time to start eating dry kibble. I mixed a little warm water with the kibble then let it soak for awhile covered up so it was softer and easier for them to eat. Hope i helped!

Curious, do you need to feed them dry, I mean, budget wise? Because it would be great for them to have an all wet diet - it is much healthier for them all around... Specially for the one who is overweight...
About soaking the dry food on water or mixing it on wet food, not a good idea at all, as humidity provides the perfect environment for harvesting bacteria and you can get your kitty in trouble. If you do that, make sure to feed the whole thing within 20 minutes or so.

Oh I would love to feed all four of them only wet! Wish I could. Just doesn't fit into my budget right now. Some days I give the overweight one more wet food than the others and I cut back on her dry, because I know it's healthier for her. I'm spending about $120 a month now between wet (Avoderm, Blue Buff, Merrick, Holistics Selects) and dry (TOTW). I just can't go any higher.

Yeah, I don't wet the food... I only sprinkle it on the wet, and they eat most of it within 20 minutes. After that, I toss and wash the plates.

Thanks!
