hi everyone
i had my first cat for 17 years. she past away last month . i had her when she was 3 months. i now have 2 male kittens mason and tyson. they are brothers. they turned 2 months tuesday. i have had them 3 weeks today. the kitten thing is new to me since it's been so long ago. plus sabrina my first cat was 3 months and female. today i had a BIG scare. i really not sure exactly what happened. my husband woke me up early. mayson seemed hurt wasn't walking right falling over. all he knew was the ''boys'' were in the bathroom, mayson hissed at tyson. i jumped up out of bed. mayson was limbing around crying. the only thing i can thing of is they were rough housing w/each other. tyson must of accidently hurt mayson. mayson would growl and hiss at tyson when he would get near him. this is new for mayson to do. we took mayson to the vet. they did blood test. and his walking was just a little off now. the vet said just keep a eye on it. to keep a eye on them when they played. the blood test was fine. also his temperture was just a little high. they said he could of just been scared and nothing major. we brought him home he was still stumbling a little you could touch it and he wouldn't cry. he's eating, drinking, bathroom, etc. when we brought him home. he did not tyson by him. he would still hiss and growl at him. now mayson is running around better and playing w/tyson. was he just maybe showing tyson ''who's boss? or ''you hurt me''. they are both so so sweet. i know nothing about male cats. as i said they just turned 2 months. ar ethey just learning new things they can do? they usally sleep together but tonight should i seperate them so when they wake up tyson can't play fight w/mayson? the dr. said to keep a eye out when they play. i can't when i'm asleep. give mayson's leg a rest also if they don't sleep together. what to do? thank you.

In my experience and opinion, keeping an eye on him is monitoring him, but not necessarily 24x7... He is doing better and that is great... Just keep taking a look at him from time to time, and watching his behavior more carefully than normal - that to me, is what "keep an eye on him" means. Things to watch: is he eating well? peeing? pooping? how is his mood? and on his specific case, is he limping? Aside from that, I wouldn't separate them tonight. I would, however, make sure that they are in a safe place - a room with no stairs to fall from for example, no boxes to get stuck in... If you feel nervous about it, can you take them to your room with you, along with a litter box, food and water? As long as you remove the immediate dangers, he should be fine...

Oh, they sleep in a crate? He should be more than safe then. I wouldn't separate them... Let them cuddle the night away! Vibes to your little boy, hope is is all better soon!

Getting them neutered will help stop the aggression. Males can play rough. Did the vet look for a cat bite? If Mayson will allow it while he is at rest, take your hand and place it right over his fur (without touching him) run you hand slowly along his body-you are looking for hot spots where the heat intensifies and rises up to hit your palm. If you feel this, you need to gently probe the fur and see if you can find the entry wound. Of course if the kitty is running a fever (depending on how high it is) he may be hot all over. The calici virus also will cause lameness in kittens so I wouldn't naturally assume the kittens hurt each other.

You can neuter as early as 8 weeks, some vets won't do it before 4 months when the adult hormones start kicking in, and some old-fashioned vets prefer 6 months so the adult hormones can cycle a couple times.
