Ultrasound at 2pm...so scared

Well I made the appointment at my vets. But then they called and said what would be the best is an ultrasound. So I called the referred vet and Arthur is going in at 2 today.

It's a good thing I am alone here, dh is at work. I just am so scared of what they are going to find. But then again, I do want answers. They were real nice on the phone, very patient even when I had to stop talking because I was starting to cry.

So, please, if you have a minute today, say a prayer or send a vibe for Arthur. I named him after my dad who had passed away shortly before I found him. He was with a bunch of cats who ran across a country road in front of my truck. They all disappeared into a barn, except him. He decided to lay in the road. I stopped, honked, nothing would move him. So I got out and picked him up. He was so sick, eyes crusted shut, congestion. He weighed 2 lbs. Just a baby. So I informed the woman that I was taking him and I admit, I wasn't too nice!

Anyway, he has been a good boy for so many years....thanks all for reading.

Aw, poor little Arthur just knew that stopping you on the road was his chance for a good life.

I'm thinking of you and him and will be all day. Hope you get good news.

Oh thanks everyone! Just going through the motions right now, tidying up the house, thinking of what to make for dinner since I wont' be home to make much.

It is so good that he is a good traveler and patient. And unless she has to draw off some fluid, it will not be an invassive visit.

You are the best you guys

That's cool how you got Arthur. We were coming home late 1 night, and a cat was just sitting in the road. We beeped and he started washing up. We could see he belonged to someone, he had a collar on, he looked well taken care of, but He didn't look like he was going to finish washing up anytime soon, and he wasn't going to move for us. So I got out of the car and started over to him, that's when he pounced away

I hope everything turns out ok for Arthur. I hope they do find out what's wrong, so their able to cure it, and get Arthur well again.

Hi, I just got home.

All his organs looked fine! She didn't find any fluid. But his bowels were full of food that was pretty much undigested. She saw no evidence of intestinal wall thickening or lymph node enlargement. Stomach, spleen and liver look great. Pale ring in both kidneys that is prob just a normal variation, but can also occur when the kidneys are not working 100%...age thing.

He has a gall stone and there is a tiny stone in the bile duct. She would expect him to walk away from his food, but he sure does not!

She sees no obstruction and suspects he is not processing his food properly. Some animals get exocrine pancreatic insuffieiency, where the pancreas is unable to digest the food so it goes through the gi tract unchanged. Some have a normal pancreas but can't absorb the food (malabsorption/maldigestion or ibd)

Soooooo, he is on Viokase Powder (trial) to digest some of the food before he eats it.

Then Ursodiol and Milk thistle in a day or two. She wants to get the weight back on him, so dealing with the bowels first.

Oh man, I'm hungry. Haven't eaten all day. I am so relieved, and on the way home I kept thinking of all you pulling for him. And it sure worked. And I thought of all the sad things lately that have been going on with all my friends here. So my happiness is tempered with those thoughts, yet you all are so encourageing when the chips are down.

So, thanks so much for the support. Arthur is resting among his buds who are eyeing him suspiciously!

You guys are quality.

That's great news! I'm so happy for Arthur.

*PHEW* It sounds serious - but not nearly as bad as a million things it could have been! it's EASILY treatable and the supplements do the trick!!!!!!!!

for your stress recovery!

So glad it wasn't something more serious. I hope the trial treatment works and you don't have to go through a long process to get him well.

Thanks again everyone. Everyone is so caring here!

Im going to buy a baby scale in the next day or so to keep good track of his weight.

The vet thought he may turn up his nose at the food with the stuff sprinkled on it, but nope! He is a chow hound!

Finger crossed he starts to get some goodness out of his food ASAP!

Thanks All!Oh and another thing...this vet gives you a typed report on what she suspects, what she found. Why he has what he has. The meds for it. So many times we get home and forget what the vet says. Not with this gal. Its all there in black and white. Every little detail...she even sent home the pic of the gall stone!..I think all vets should do this. It would solve so many problems of misunderstanding and follow up calls for clairification.
WOW what a wonderful vet!!!!! And he eats his food with the meds on it - that makes life SO MUCH easier!

for weight gain!
Am glad it is nothing serious, and fingers crossed he continues taking the meds.
