Update:

Took Lears to the neurologist today. He did a bunch of test & Lears has almost no feeling in his rear right leg & the right side of his face. His right eye is also nonresponsive to light or touch. We ran blood test to check a a number of infections that may cause this. If that all comes back clean then we're talking the big-BIG bucks (not that the $450 I blew on him today is chump change) with MRi's, CT Scans & nerve biopsies, so lets see what happens, I'll crosse that bridge when I get to it.

As of right now Doc says that he's not in any pain & seems alert & happy. I'll probably won't get any news till monday, so thanks for caring guys & have a merry Christmas.

I hope Lears will be ok. I know nothing about these problems your kits are having right now but stay positive, yeah easy for me to say. Sending lots of to both your kits and hope you will have good news for both of them from the vets.

Got my fingers crossed the Lears problem is something that can be easily resolved. Gentle head skritches to both of your babies.

well, they both have feline lukemia. Lears came back positive & we immediately tested his brother & he's got it too. They think that the mother probably had it & they were born with it, they haven't had any contact with any other cats since I got them.

the lukemia is what is causing Lears' neuro problem. Not really the Christmas present I was hoping for.

I'm so very sorry. Marshmallow did not have feline leukemia, but did have a neurological problem. One day his back legs just fell out from under him. The vet was stumped as to what caused it, as were we. He had a lot of expensive blood tests and spent days in the animal hospital. After Marshmallow crossed the bridge, the vet wanted to send him to Raleigh for an autopsy (I think to satisfy his own curiosity, since he admitted he'd never seen anything like it) but I flat out refused. Sounds selfish, maybe, but I wanted him burried at home. Couldn't stand the thought of the thought of an autopsy, either. I am not saying this to upset you further; my heart is breaking for you and the last thing I want to do is make you feel worse. I understand what your going through and my prayers are with you.

The vet tells me that he is not i pain & seems very happy. So as long as he is not suffering we will try to give him the best life we can. At least now we know what is wrong with him & we can prepare for the future.

I'm very sorry you got bad news about Lears and his brother. I'm sure that has put a real damper on your holiday, too. All you can really do is give them both as much love and quality of life you can, and cherish every day you have with them.

Being someone who faces difficult emotional challenges on a daily basis, I know how important it is to focus on the positives that there are.

I'm so sorry for all you and Lears have been through, and I am sorry that it's turned out to be FeLV - and I'm sorry for the timing of it all.
BUT at least now you know what the problem is. It's also nice to know he's not in any pain.
6 of our 8 kitties are special needs kitties, and we simply delight in their happiness, and care for their needs as they arise.

I'm really, really sorry to hear this. BUT...I will tell you I was a little afraid it was FIP at first, and frankly, even FELV is better than FIP.
I'm so glad they are not in pain, and it's horrible and hard, but having been there, you're only given what you can handle. Hugs to both of you and both your kitties.

Thanks everyone.

I'm afraid that Lears may not last me 'till the end of the year. he's getting progressively worse on a daily basis. Looks like his other rear leg is is losing feeling too. Yet, as soon as I touch him, or even look at him he begins purring. It's breaking my heart

I am so sorry - I can't imagine how much pain you're in right now - it must be the cost of loving and being loved. I will keep you and your babies in my thoughts, and wish you strength as you love them for as many days as you have together.

We're taking him to the vet tomorrow, he's telling me it's time.

now his other back leg is hardly working, he almost can't walk, it breaks my heart to see him like that. He doesn't look like a happy cat anymore.

this is going to be so tough.

I'm so sorry. It's so painfully heartbreaking.

He's so lucky to have you to love and care for him now. And he knows it.

Did it today. I know that my little "Purry Pappi" is somewhere better now, but I still miss him dearly. He was such a special kitty. I hope that for the 6 month I had him, out of the 8 months of his extremely short life, I gave him the best & loving home he could of had.

BMW, I'm in Kendall. You?
