took my two guys to the vet today.

Lears has a neurological problem which I will need to take him to a neurologist. His right back leg seemed to be slipping out from under him & he didn't seem to have that much control over it. Then I noticed he has this twitch on the right side, his whiskers & his ear on that side constantly twitch. then yesterday one eye was totally dilated while the other wasn't (that happened about a month ago right after we had him fixed. We thought it was a reaction to the anesthesia. went away by the morning).

so we took him & his brother in today. Doc said he definately was neurological, he stopped short of saying it was serious, but I know.

Man, I've grown really attached to this little cat. I mean, i've had animals all my life & I've loved them all, but I REALLY love this cat.

His brother, choripan, has been strugling with what another vet told us was an eye infection. Turns out that his lower eyelid is turning itself in to the eye. He gave us some stuff for that & said that worse case senario he'd need surgery. Basically an eye lift. If it would go untreated he could lose his eye, but he's not going to go untreated, you know.

I feel confident that we will take care of choripan & I feel it is something that is within our control, I don't feel the same confidence about Lears & I fear my time with him may be limited.

sorry for the long post. had to talk to someone.

I'm so sorry that you have this troubling, scary, upsetting situation to deal with.

Don't borrow trouble. You're taking Lears to a neurologist. See what he has to say. May be bad news, may be something that can help. You won't know until you have results.

I know you love Lears so very much, just by what you write and what you're doing for him. Good wishes and loving thoughts to you both.

I'm so sorry - first of all, don't forget that a cat with disabilities doesn't have the emotional baggage WE have when we become disabled. To them, that's just how it is. If it's a neurological problem that unfortunately makes him somewhat uncoordinated, or unable to jump, he will adjust just fine, with some adjustments in the household.

Also. we have a moderator here who has had her cat have the surgery for the inverted eyelids, I think. I don't think that was a horribly traumatic surgery, as a matter of fact, I think it was a big relief to the cat!

One of my kittens had to have that surgery and after a few days, she was just fine. I could tell just by her attitude that she felt so much better as it puts so much pressure on their eye when it is inverted like that.

A neurological problem isn't necessarily a death sentence. You may have to make some adjustments to his environment so that he can better cope and just let him be himself.

I'm sorry about your kitties and I'd be scared and worried, too. I can't add anything because I've never had a cat with those troubles. But listen to the people here; they know what they're talking about. Hopefully, both babies will be OK.

I hope so.

thank you all for your support. I have no problem if Lears stays permantly gimpy, I'll love him just the same. He's such a super-sweet cat that he even wins over people who don't like cats (3 so far).

The experiences that I have had with Neurological problems have not been good. We had to put my mom's dog down a few years ago becouse she lost all feeling & movement in her back legs. A friend of mine also had a littler of kittens & one had that problem too, she couldn't use her back legs & had no control over her facilities, she had to be put down also.

I'm hoping for the best, but I'm also preparing for the worse.

I'm not THAT worried about Choripan's eye. I'm sure we can take care of that.

Although what is worrying me about him now is that he is acting wierd since yesterday. When we put him in a basket to take him to the vet he began crying like if something hurt & he sort of spazzed out. I thought that it was just him being a big baby & not wanting to go. He kinda freaked out in the car & then got real quiet, & he's been like that since, just sitting there in one spot. He hasn't ate anything since yesterday & that is also really worrying us since he is somewhat of a glutten.

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
and that the TCS vibes work their miracles!!!!

I would call the vet to ask about Choripan's behavior. Don't let him go long without eating.

for you and your two kitties.

Try not to worry until you have all the facts. I should take my own advice!

I can tell you love them very much.

Made an appointment with a neurologist. $100 for the visit alone! I imagine that they'll probably want to do a CT Scan or a MRI, I'm sure that won't be less than $200.

Add that to the $295 I blew yesterday on them & to the more or less $600 I've spent the past month or so.

Although times are tough, money is not really the problem (although I have really felt it this month).

Just best wishes for you all - and hopefully some very good news shortly. And bless you for putting their needs so high on your list. They are blessed to have you in their corner.

Before you get upset about Lears, just wait to see what the neurologist has to say. Maybe it won't be as bad as your thinking.

I hope everything turns out ok for both your cats!

It's for today at 3:30pm, but I spoke to my old vet, which I lost contact with when he & we moved. He also has a friend who is a neurologist & I may end up going to see him. I'm pretty sure with them I can work something out as far as money goes.

Also, the one I have an appointment with today JUST graduated, my wife says she'd prefer someone with more experience.
