Bugsy is at the vet for the day

Bugsy is at the vet right now, he is not doing too good... He didn't eat well yesterday all day, and did not eat at all this morning. He sits in front of his food dish, stares at the food, licks one or two kibbles and walks away. If I would guess, I would say he ate yesterday a 1/4 of his regular meals, with much effort of my part.
He also regurgitated hi last antibiotic pill, the night before, prior to this lack of appetite starting.
Per his vet, this can be a few things:
1- the vomiting can have caused his tummy to feel bad, he is not feeling well enough to eat.
2- too much gas in his digestive tract
3- a foreign body

I dropped him off at the vet, and they will take x-rays and check him out to see if they find anything wrong with him.
I gave him 1/2 of pepcid A/C this morning to see if he felt better, but he did not... If the vet feels he has nausea he might give him some other nausea medicine.
An appetite stimulant might be in order. The steroids should help with that also; I did not start it yet as he wasn't feeling well and I did not want to mess up his tummy even more.
I will keep you posted.
For my baby...

Ok, the vet just called... He is running a fever, 103.1, and the temperature was taken twice so it is a true fever.
They are running another blood test to check his white blood cells. They also collected a urine sample and sent to the lab. His urine was very dark, which concerned the vet, but I explained to him that he was not drinking water yesterday or today, neither ate his wet food, so it is probably dehydrated. Nonetheless, I am happy that a urinalysis is being done - now we need to find where this infection is located. Results on the urine test will be in tomorrow, and blood momentarily.
He will not be put on antibiotics immediately. He will be given fluids, an appetite stimulant, and steroids. The doctor does not want to bombard him with even more medication on his stomach.
He does not feel gassy, and his bowels feel a little less inflamed.
He will be there a little longer to see if the fever goes down after he receives the fluids.

The vet called... His white blood cells are just a little bit elevated, he doesn't require antibiotics at this point. His ALT is elevated - normal would be up to 132, his is at 165. The vet said this could be due to inflammation, and to not worry about hepatic lipidosis at this point, as all other 4 liver enzymes are normal to low, and if it was HL one of them (sorry If forgot which one, I want to say Bilirubin, but not completely sure) would be really high as well. He said the fluids will help to lower the ALT levels.
He got an appetite stimulant that will last 3 days, an injection for his intestinal and digestive tract that helps the food to go down easier, and I am to start the steroids tonight.
I am also bringing home a force-feeding syringe in case he doesn't eat.
If he doesn't get better, or starts vomiting, then x-rays are in order, or another check for pancreatitis.
The vet told me over and over to not worry too much, his blood work is looking good, and as long as he eats, he will get better....
Oh Bugsy.... You will end up killing meowmy....

I just had a thought about this... Bugsy took Tylan for 15 days not long ago... Tylan Does affect lab results in showing increased ALT levels, so that might be the case here... I left a message to the vet reminding him of this... Hoping that is the case....

Here's hoping everything they did today does the trick to get him back on track for both of you!

I know what you're going thru. I just got Sven, our CFR kitty, to the point of finally eating some wet food (for about two months now), and suddenly he's revolting against it, just within the past 2 days. So, now I guess we're going to have to go back to giving him his "meds" via syringe. I keep trying to explain to him that eating them is so much better than having Daddy stick that thing in his mouth, but he's just not getting it . But my main worry is that he'll start losing weight only eating kibble again. Sigh, just when you think things are on track...

Back from the vet - I got a couple of things wrong on my last post. His white blood cells are completely normal.
His ALT levels are high, and his Globulin is also a little bit high. The globulin, the vet explained is due to the bowel inflammation, which we already know we have an issue there, obviously, after 70 days of diarrhea.
He took a shot of Reglan, and now I am to give it to him 20-30 minutes prior to his wet meals, am and pm. He also got fluids.
Got an appetite stimulant that should last 3 days.
His urine is concerning as it is too dark and the blood test did not indicate dehydration; we will know more tomorrow when we get the results back. The fever is also puzzling since his WBC is normal.
He ate a little dry food when he got home, but not enough... It is a start though... I also brought home the syringes for force feeding if it comes to that tonight.

Okaaaaay... We just got through our first force feeding experience... Thank God for the Cat bag, once again making our lives easier!
Aside from a couple of squirts that went past his mouth almost hitting me on the eye , I would say I got a fair amount of food into him - a little short of 1/4 can, I think.
I went ahead and gave him his prednizolone, so that should also increase his appetite a little more... Around 9pm I will give him the Reglan and 1/2 hour later another 1/4 can of food. Then another 1/4 can before I go to bed, if he doesn't start eating dry on his own.
I hope he realizes it is easier on both of us to eat on his own
Thank Goodness I work home, so I can take care of him properly and feed him often! And thank goodness my next trip is not until Jan 2nd!

Another successful feeding... Force-feeding that is... This time I got him to eat in between 1/4 and 1/2 can, so he got somewhere in in between 1/2 and 3/4 can tonight...
I will give him another small feeding before I go to bed, and hope he starts eating on his own tomorrow...
I am having a problem with the syringe though... it gets stuck and when it finally goes, these huge squirts come out... I read about lubing it with olive oil... Tried that with for no avail, tried coconut oil and it didn't help either... any other tricks? Of course I am blending the food down on the processor with water and a bit of fiber, it is not a clot issue...

It is only 12ml... but the issue is not plug... the syringe doesn't run smoothly even when I run it empty... Where do you buy a 60ml syringe?

Crunch crunch crunch Bugsy is eating dry food on his own again! He started on the middle of the night, and is here next to me munching away as I type!
Just as my vet told me, it was probably just a matter of getting him going for a day until his tummy got better for him to start eating.... Thank goodness he was right! Fingers crossed he is going to hold his own!
I have a conference call soon and will be serving his wet meal shortly after that - hopefully he will eat that too so I don't need to force feed him again today!
