Behavior issues

I have a 7 month old kitten. I got her when she was 3 months old from a animal shelter. She has always been skitish. About a month after I got her I noticed that there was blood coming out of her butt. I brought her to the vet and he gave her meds. The medicine for the most part worked. I seen a very little bit of blood only a few times after this. A few days ago she pooped and pee'd all over my bed and there was blood all over also. Brought her to the vet again and she is on more meds to stablize her stomach. She has been vacinated for all parasites and blood bourne pathogines. There was also a x-ray taken to make sure she hadn't eaten anything and it was stuck in her. After I have taken her home she poops and pee's on the floor and not in her box and she hisses and scratches and cowers everytime I try and go near her. The vet told me to keep her in my bathroom with her litter box, food, toys etc and away from my other cat. My other cat is 8 months and has no problems. Does anyone know what is going on with her? Why would she act this was? Has anyones cat had these blood issues? I am at my wits end and it is getting to the point where I may have to bring her back to her shelter. I do not want to do this and I love this cat but I cant have her going potty on the carpet. Thanks for any advise.

I have had no experience with this but want to bump you up and hopefully someone will see it and have more experience.

But I am sending vibes for this to get better. I would try to get a better diagnosis from the vet so you know what you are dealing with

Has she been treated for worms? Has the vet run any kind of fecal or blood tests?

Hi bean20 welcome to the Cat Site. There are alot of people more knowledgable than me but if that were my kitten, I would get a second opinion. This problem is not a behavior issue, your kitten is sick and blood coming from her stools is not a good thing. (not to mention the mess). You don't mention what kind of food she is on. Maybe a change in food may help. Also is it possible she's hissing, scratching and cowering because she is in pain? Maybe it hurts to go to the bathroom. When kittens don't use the litter box its for a reason. Good luck...if they could only talk and tell us what is wrong.

She has had 3 different types of worm medicines and she is eating purina 1 kitten food. I have tryed several other types including purina 2 for stomach issues and sience diet but she throws it up. Her fecal and blood tests come back normal with no worms. They vet told me that they have given her everything for de-worming they can. The next step would ne a colonoscopy (sp?) and a biopsy of her colon.

Sending vibes for your poor kitty. Yes, this is a medical issue, not behavior. Hugs to you for being so good to her.

Before they do anything that drastic, ask them to culture the fecal for Tritrichomonas Foetus. You can find more info here: http://www.highgait.com/page/page/3485008.htm and here: http://www.cvm.ncsu.edu/docs/documen...sed_120909.pdf .

I'd also look for a different vet to give you a second opinion.

Hi bean20 - there is a thread by chrisn posted on Dec 17th about his cat with loose stools. The recommendation by another member was a probiotic with a link. That may be something you may want to check into. It certainly will not in hurt. I've had the same problem with loose stools and a probiotic has worked wonders. Might be worth a shot. It might be a cheap solution to a aweful problem. Good luck
