Last night when I got home, My cat was squinting her eyes and slowly moving her head from side to side. She was also licking the roof of her mouth like sh ehad PB stuck on it. She looks like she has a headache and is wincing from the pain. She had done this once back in Feb. and I took her to the vet. They told me her liver was inflamed from what they determined from the blood tests. I got meds for her and in a few days she was fine. I can only think that she ate my Valentines day flowers and something was toxic to her. Last night she was only playing with her catnip mouse which she has all the time. I also caught her smelling my mint choc chip icecream when I sat down. I don't know if she licked it but I can't think of anything else that she has gotten into to cause this. The vet is so expensive so I was going to call the shelter clinic when we adopted my other cat from to see if they do that kind of visit.

What I need help on is should I wait til tomorrow to see how she is or do you think I should take her in being it has happend before???

Well, the thing about chocolate ice cream is that there's not really much chocolate in it at all - so that's the unlikely culprit.

Could she have fallen or hit her head in any way? What you're describing sounds more neurological in nature - though some types of poisonings will have that effect, too.

Do not wait, in fact make that call right now. If they won't take her do not put this off as it sounds like it could get very serious.

How old is this kitty, anyways?

She is 1 1/2 yrs old. I made an apt. with her vet for today and I took video of it to show them as she seems fine one minute then does it again. I don't know if she could have hit anything. But I also can't think of anything that was out that she could have ingested. I hope they can give me an answer! Thanks for your reply.

Oh, so she's still pretty much a kitten. My worry was that she was older and it was blood pressure related.

Great idea getting a video of the episodes! I hope they can figure out what is going on and that she'll be ok. Good luck later. Please update this thread is you can.

Ok well we went to the vet today. They said she had a little bit of an elevated temp but her eyes ears and mouth checked out fine. Her eyes were a little bit swollen so they gave her an anit-inflamitroy shot to help with that and any sinus pressure that she might have. We got home and she ate all her dinner and rested for a while. So they said within 24-48 hours she should be fine. Any suggestions for at home winter allergy remidies????? That's what I am chauking it up to. Thanks...

****UPDATE****

Well tonight when DH got home he called me right away and said Missys left eye now is clouding over. What is going on with my cat?????? I called the vet right away and left a message for them to call me in the morning. I am thinking of applying for pet insurance because I am afriad of how much this could potentially cost me if something does go wrong. She is still eating and drinking and moving around just fine and normal. I have read things online that suggest irritated eyes but I just am at a loss and don't know what else to do. Any help is well appreciated. Thank you all so much!!!

The cloud you're seeing is most likely an infection. My cat got a retinal ulcer from bumping his eye against something, and when that started to get worse, that part of his eye started getting cloudy.

That will take at least 14 days to be approved, likely more because it's the holidays. Because she has already had some treatment for this, there's a possibility it will not be covered.

My initial thought to your very first post was that your cat had a seizure or stroke, possibly related to high blood pressure (which can be caused by other things). Now I'm even more convinced that this could be a possibility and that you may be seeing retinal detachment. Your cat must go to the vet in the morning. If this is what is going on failure to do so can lead to her death or at the very least permanent blindness. Even if it's something less serious, you still risk her going blind.
You can't wait 2+ weeks, you can't put it off because she's eating fine. This is not normal.

Thank you for you quick replies. I am awaiting the vets return phone call as i type. If I don't get anywhere today I am considering switching vets. I got some good recommendations from friends last night. Hopefully I can get some answers. It makes me so upset when things happen to them because they are my babies. I know people here can relate. It's heartbreaking when they can't tell you whats wrong.

Honestly, if you don't get a call back soon I think you should call the other vet this morning. Tomorrow is Christmas eve and you'll be very short on options then.

Make sure they test everything possible bloodwork wise.

I hope she'll be ok.

Went to the vet. They got us in first thing this morning. They gave me an ointment for her eyes and took blood to test again, but only after I asked them to. I was not very comforted by the doctor who only made me feel like I was going crazy as I was in tears in the exam room. They said they will call within a couple days with blood results. She is eating/drinking/bathroom all normal and she was just up playing a little. My girlfriend is a vet tech and said she will go with me somewhere else after a week and nothing improves or gets worse. Of course these things have to happen around the hoildays!! Sorry for my ranting but I just have to vent my frustrations. Thanks to all again!

Ok. It’s been 9 years but I’m curious whatever happened with your cat.
I have a 9 month old cat exhibiting similar issues.
I’m really worried about her. We go to the vet this morning.

The person who started this thread hasn't been back for awhile, so I doubt you'll get any answers here.

I hope your cat is going to be OK. Please start a thread for her and let us know how you get on at the vet.

:goodluck:
