My little sister needs some advice about her two cats. She has had the two boys since they were kittens and they are probably about 4 now (I'm guessing on some of the specifics). Earlier this year my sister got startled and jumped up, knocking one cat off the couch and on top of his brother. They immediately began fighting complete with hissing, growling, and fur flying. Up to this point they had never fought in their lives. They were best friends, sleeping together and grooming each other.
After that fight they were scared of each other and hid in different rooms of the apartment. Eventually she had to separate them with baby gates and give them each half of the house. She called the vet and made a plan to ease them together again and used feliway and I believe they had some anti-anxiety meds as well. It took a while but she got them together again and it seemed that all was well.
She called me last night upset because the cats had fought again. She is worried that she is going to have to get rid of the cats because in the last few months that they have been together again they have had 3 or 4 bad fights. I have introduced cats to each other before so I can give her a little advice but mine don't usually really fight much.
So, I guess I am just looking for any advice or reassurance I can give her. I think part of their problem is stress. My sister's boyfriend moved in with her a couple months ago, but I'm definitely not an expert. Thanks for reading and for any help you have
