Keeping kitten out of water

Hi all...looking for some advice here.
So for the past couple of days Calvin has been obssessed with water. We got him 3 weeks ago and he was always a little fascinated by the kitchen faucet. We have a deep sink and we would sometimes find him sitting there. Then came tentatively reaching out if we were doing any work there and we would say "no" and put him down. Then suddenly a couple of days ago he decided enough is enough, I need to get drenched. So he did. Now any time any of us turn on the kitchen faucet he'll leave whatever he's doing and run to the kitchen. In the dead of winter he'll get his head in and get wet. He tries to drink from the faucet but we figured that's not all. We were thinking of getting a water fountain for him but am having second thoughts since it seems he's not just interested in drinking but playing with water and getting wet. Needless to say, it's not been pleasant with him tracking water everywhere, on furniture, carpet etc. He usually obeys "no" for everything else except for his adventure at the water park.
Any advice as to how we can deal with this?
Thanks

Be ready to catch and put him down when he jumps up on the sink. Otherwise you pretty much have to live with. Many kittens love to play in water and it's just something you have to hope they grow out of (many do).

My kitty loves running water too. He doesn't so much want to get wet, but he loves to play in it and drink from it. You may want to get him his own fountain, one that has actual falling water like a tap (not just dribbling down the sides). Then surround the fountain with towels or carpet that can soak up the water when he plays in it. Keep it full if you can, maybe getting a large Drinkwell for big dogs.

Silly kitty. Have you see the video of the cat who loves to stick his head under a running tap? It's adorable. Enjoy... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8KswnjMa-MQ&feature=fvw

Thanks Strange_wings for the advice; we've been doing that but it's not working much - we are getting tired of putting him down but he's not getting tired of jumping back up.
@ Rosewelsh - thanks for the really amusing videos and advice about the fountain. The first one where the cat sticks his head in the water could very well be my Calvin.

So we figured that Calvin likes to drink out of the faucet and play a little - but it is his attempts are drinking that's drenching him. He tries to use his paw to "catch" the water to drink it. So I guess he's going to get another Christmas gift - I think getting the fountain would be a good idea. Will just have to find a place to put it to minimize water flowing everywhere.

If you find that he's still making a mess with the fountain, you can go get the largest shallow under bed storage container you can find and put the fountain in that. You may still need a towel or two outside of it to take care of wet paws, but at least most of the water would be contained and not a puddle on the floor for you to slip in.

I have one that likes to jump up on the counter and often runs into the bathroom and jumps up on the toilet whenever I open the door to go in there. He just likes to be right there stuck up my butt. I'm so used to him anymore that I put him down/out the door or shoo him away.
After a while putting Calvin down will seem normal to you and eventually he'll get bored of his current game.

Let me know how the fountain turns out. I like strange_wings idea of adding a layer of protection as it were, of a large under the bed plastic box to the get up. Pictures just might be an awesome thing *hint hint*

I think cats being attracted to running water is common, but most don't like a real soaking. Reminded of this thread this morning though as both Wesley AND Buttercup fell into a completely full bathtub.

I think the thin edge must have had slippery soap on it, as first he fell in, and while I was drying him off, sure enough, she plopped in as well.

Look of sheer terror on her face though as she scampered out, lol!

Rosewelsh -here's a little sample of what he does but when you see him getting out of the sink, he's really not done- rather walk towards the other end of the sink. This was one of the first few times Calvin did that - he's way bolder now. I try to wipe him dry but he scoots

Will post some pics of calvin in the appropriate section - there is one where he begs me to turn on the faucet - adorable! Will also post pics once we get the fountain.

Thanks strange_wings for the storage box advice - makes perfect sense. Will try - we do have one of those that I can spare.

Ducman69 - that must have been some adventure this morning!

My cat when we first got him he would always sit in the sink waiting for it to get turned on, he grew out of it though, so your cat should grow out of it to sometime soon.

I hope so, Tigganat. In fact, I am waiting for that to happen, especially since Calvin sneezed a few times today. I think I will get my blow dryer ready from now on.
