I know these kittens are to young for solids but can I start mixing some babyfood chicken into their formula? They are impossible to satisfy and hungry as can be. Is there health reasons why they shouldn't start this early?

You can try I think. I believe Hissy had an advice of this type not so long ago, talking about the survival instinct.

I have done it with 4+ wk old kittens when introducing solids but not kittens this young. I make sure it is pureed really good and widen the whole in the nipple, it works really well for those who are reluctant to wean.

I usually start trying orphans on solids (canned food mushed with formula) at 3 weeks. If they eat it, I figure they're old enough. They don't always know what to do at first but they'll get the hang of it. I've never thought of adding it to their bottle, though.

I don't know if you should start them on solid food at 3 weeks old. Midnight was eating dry food at 3 weeks old. We didn't know he was only 3 weeks old when we got him, we found that out later. But he came here knowing how to eat. He had trouble because he only had his 4 baby fangs. The other teeth hadn't come in yet. He did choke a couple of times, so we had added water to his dry food, and got him kitten can food. He ate both of those without a problem.
