Need help!!!

Hello,

From the beginning...I adopted a cat 4 years ago then adopted another 2 years later so my 2 cats have been together for 2 years. The first is a very shy female and the second is a very sweet, outgoing male. They have always been friends. My problem is this...last week something happened during the night (things knocked over, etc.) and now the shy female will not let the male anywhere near her! He stares at her, corners her, follows her and she hisses and growls at him. The other night he had her cornered in the basement and she was screaming (it didn't even sound like a cat) and when I went down there they both had huge puffed up tails but were not physical with each other. What is going on??? What do I do??? I hate that they don't get along and I really hate that my poor shy female is so afraid to be around him! Please help!

First question, are they both fixed? as in spayed and neutered?

It sounds like whenever the crashing thing happened they blamed each other for the event and are now uncertain around each other. It's not all that uncommon and with time things may go back the way they were. There are a few things you can do to help the process along. If, as the other poster mentioned, they're not fixed that needs to be done. You can try bathing them both in the same shampoo. They'll both smell the same and that can help them get along. Also, try Feliway diffusers if you haven't all ready. They release cat pheromones that are comforting to kitties. Finally, try to keep yourself relaxed if you're not. Sometimes, when we get upset on their behalf we actually escalate their anxiety. Speak firmly and calmly to them when they're upset and see if you can get them to focus their attention on you rather than each other. If you yell or make loud noises you may actually make the situation worse. Hope I've helped you!

You might want to get the female checked out at the vet. She may be sick. this happened to my guys that had been friends for over 5 years, all of a sudden 2 were picking on one. The one(FAng) died a few months later of undiagnosed heart disease. I wish I had thought of this, maybe he would still be alive.

Thank you guys! They are both fixed. Where would I get Feliway?

I order mine on Amazon as I've found the best prices there.

Any major pet store will have feliway, and it may be called comfort zone
