We realized a while ago that Nora actually thanks us when she is happy that we did something for her. She will come over and rub against our legs and make a specific meow, and she doesn't really rub against our legs any other time. It's kind of funny, actually. Like tonight, I couldn't sleep so I decided to do the dishes and clean the kitchen. I swept the floor, and the mat that I keep her food and water bowls on was dirty and her water bowl hadn't been cleaned in a few days, so I washed both of them. Once I put them both back down, she went over and investigated. As soon as she saw them, she ran over and rubbed against my leg and did her meow. At least I got some appreciation for my job. LOL I love my funny girl!

No, honestly. They'll beg, they'll bug me out of boredom, but I don't believe they actually can figure out cause and effect well enough to show direct appreciation in that way.

Around here a cat around your legs means they want something..

Neko loves to watch Rob clean the litterbox, and when he's done will meow and rub his legs.

Usually when mine rub my legs in the kitchen it means they want treats, so no thanking in there

When we got them their new cat tree last year they were allllll over us so maybe they were being thanking kitties then.

My cats thank me for doing the litterboxes by going in and christening them as soon as I'm done.

One of mine has a funny habit: if you stick around after you put down his food, he'll stop munching for a moment, look up at you, and meow until you pet him. My SO says he's thanking us for the food, but I think he just likes us to pet him while he eats!

My kitties give us headbutts as we put their food down. I think it's there way of thanking us for feeding them. Other than that, the love they give us throughout the day (headbutts, purrs, body rubs, laying down next to us, rubbing up against us, visiting us in the bathroom, and etc.) letting us know they're happy here is also their way of thanking us.

That's pretty much how it goes here, too! Seeking me out for luvins... and making happy feet... or just being content to be around me/us.....

Not in so many words....
But they give lots of kisses and Speck gives headbutts, sometimes so enthusiastically that I worry he'll knock himself out on my hard head.

When putting the bowl of food down for Claudio (3 times a day) he lifts his head, looking at me, and waits for me to pat or stroke his head - before he starts eating. That's a lot for him because he's food obsessed. He's the most obviously grateful, of all my cats - who all came from a shelter - for having a home. His 3 year anniversary "Gotcha Day" was December 13. That was a good day.

Lily often jumps up on the computer desk and makes an effort to kiss me after an especially good dinner of canned cat food. She thinks I'm a good cook!
