Do you have any other animals that might have scared her? I would give her time to let her settle down. Feed something enticing tonight for dinner to encourage her to explore her new surroundings and that she shouldnt be scared. I wouldnt try to get her from under the couch. Just let her calm down.

Welcome

It would be best if she were in a small room, like a bathroom, where she can easily find her litter box, food, and water. That way, the stress is minimized. Also, it is much safer; you are unlikely to accidentally hurt her in there.

But it's not unusual for a cat to be frightened and hide at first.

Welcome Martina,

Mimi sounds like an adorable kitty, who is probably really scared.

Is your Litter Maid an automatic cleaning litter box?
If it is, it might be scaring her.
The solution for that would be to run out and get a regular litter box immediately.
What kind of environment was she in when you got her?
What kind of box was she using?

Take a look in our behavior forum,
there is a lot of info there that might help you.
Behavior

Be patient, let her go at her own pace.
Make sure that she has fresh food, water and litter...
she will come to you soon.

The cat in my signature is someone else's cat (I forget whose). It was a picture I made a caption for.

But I would call him a domestic longhair.

I have to agree that the Littermaid is probably going to scare her at first. Is there a way to unplug it or remove the batteries and let her get used to it quietly?

The best thing you can do this week, is to ignore her and don't worry about her too much. Try to keep things quiet. Keep a check on her food and water. You might be surprised in a few days when she comes crawling up your bed in the middle of the night
