hey guys, i'm fairly new to owning cats, and currently have a beautiful long-haired kitty that has always had a little "pouch" of fat on her tummy, sort of like what I call a poochie belly (sp?) on a female human. she only gets a 1/4 cup dry food in the am and a 1/2 can of wet food in the evenings. how do I help her shed those last few ounces? or is this healthy? we go in for a check up in february, so if it hasn't disappeared by then, I will definitely ask the vet, but thought maybe someone on here has had experience with helping a kitty get trim.

I found the text in this book spot on, but the illustrations aren't helpful at all. Good over all book

This mat caught my eye because of its size and texture, which traps fine litter rather well. It's large enough for jumbo litterboxes, which is also a plus. It's not quite as easy to clean as a...

This scoop was a freebie with some clumping litter I bought last year, and I like it so much that I've bought a second one. It's perfect for fine clumping litter, which it sifts very thoroughly....

That is perfectly normal and healthy, most cats develop that lion pouch. The pouch is most pronounced on a female who had kittens, but even neutered male and spayed females can develop it. If you feel that pouch between your fingers, you'll feel that it is almost entirely skin. Have you ever seen your cat stretch it's back legs by dragging one on the ground and raising the other straight back? usually in that position you can see how streamline their bodies really are since that pouch of skin is stretched out all the way. I used to think my 12 lb male was overweight due to his pouch, but every time he stretches I can see he actually has a very trim waistline.

ah, that makes sense. according to the shelter from which we adopted her, she has never had a litter. how accurate can a vet be about that, btw??? and i have played with her pouchy before, and it does seem like just a little flabby thing. she meows a little in distress when i do this haha. it's just so hard to tell when she stretches, because her fur is so darned thick and long. maybe next time she stretches i will just ambush her and feel her (if she'll let me). thanks!
