Anyone have any decent instructions for making your own filtered drinking fountain?

I've seen some on the internet - using aquarium filters - but - the ideas I did see, I'm not all that excited about.

So - has anyone made their own filtered fountain?

I'm looking for something with low noise, and easy to clean.

The Amazon reviews of fountains show a lot of complaints with cleaning and noisy units.

For you or for your cats? If for your cats, Arlyn has made one and had a thread about it a while back.

Arlyn is a busy member!

I tried to locate the thread - but, so far, unsuccessful.

I've had a Petmate for about 3 1/2 years now and have never had any problems with it. It is very easy to clean and maintain and Abby absolutely loves it. It takes about 5 minutes to clean. You can even put it into your dishwasher if you want to (except the cord part).

I got it on sale for something like $25.00 if I remember correctly. It wasn't very much. The replacement filters cost about $7.00 Canadian for 2 of them. And each one lasts about 6 months.

Thanks for tracking that down for me Natalie - that's a simple and straightforward set up!

I'm going to check out the PetMate you posted about, too. Thx!

I'm thinking that I'd want to have some sort of spout that's easier to get to - and I would want either glass, stone, or stainless steal - I'm not a plastic person - if I can help it.

I did make my own with a fish tank filter and a Rubbermaid dish pan. But I got concerned about the plastic so I switched to a stoneware dish, plus the kittens were making a mess in the fountain. Now the kittens are older so I want to re-set-up the fountain, but I'd like to find a glass or stoneware container that will hold the filter. So far no success
. If anyone knows of a deeper glass/stoneware container, let me know!
