Manx syndrome and pregnant lady...

Anybody know what to do if you have a very much loved manx that has a messy butt sometimes and you're pregnant? My DH is freaked out about it. What should I do after the baby is born and starts crawling? I really dont think Kitty will wear a diaper

Ive tried different foods etc, and she still has a poopy butt sometimes.

If you're worried about birth defects from toxoplasmosis, you can get tested to see if you already have it. If you contracted it before you got pregnant (very likely if you already had cats) then you're immune and it's not a big deal.

As for when your baby starts crawling around, you may have to restrict the areas of the house that either your baby or the cat goes to. You can also try being diligent with a baby wipe whenever you see poo particles on him. If his fur is tangled, matted, or otherwise thick and obstructive in that area, you may have to shave his butt fur.

Also, how messy are we talking here? Messy enough to leave bits stuck to things when he gets up from sitting or laying down? Or just one or two particles stuck to fur?

Good advice about getting tested, I will have to look into how much that costs. That would help alot.

She is messy enough that it does leave a little smudge if she sits down after having loose poo. It comes off in the litter box, but we find little soft balls near the box sometimes too.

Everything everyone else has said is great advice.

I think you will have more problems once the baby comes with the cat. I would put the box in a place where the baby doesn't have access to the area once he/she is crawling around.

As for butt wiping duties while preggers, keep a supply of wipes and rubber gloves handy if you have to do it, and if DH is worried you might use it as an opportunity to encourage him to do some of the kitty-clean up himself!
