Pregnant!!

Just recently found out I'm pregnant!

We are very happy and excited (and nervous!). Im due sometime in August.

But, we have a Manx, Kitty, and you know what that means. Poop on the floor is not exactly sanitary and my husband is stressing alot over this. I'm not sure where else to post asking for more info...

Kitty will always be my first baby, and I want to love her all her life. I just need to figure out how to make it all work.

Also, the whole litter box thing? DH is scooping their box, but they are indoor only and always have been. Whatever they have I have, but my doc says to still avoid it?

Congratulations! I'm expecting as well! (#2 in April)

I'm sure you will find a way to make it work with Kitty. As far as the litter box is concerned, your husband should do the scooping, but if you have to make sure you wear gloves and wash your hands after (to avoid toxoplasmosis sp??). I'm sure if you have been around cats your whole life you have already been exposed and have a tolerance, but you can't be too careful!

Just be sure not to let anyone tell you how cats are bad around babies...our cats have adjusted nicely to my daughter

Yes, continue to use caution. You may or may not have encountered toxoplasmosis.

Before I had my chemo, the oncologist ran a bunch of labs, and to my surprise, I show no antibodies to toxoplasmosis. I am 48, have been around cats most of my life, worked in an animal shelter for a while, always petted the strays as a kid, etc. The oncologist's office was even amazed.

You don't want to pick pregnancy as a time to assume and not be cautious.

Congrats you two!!!

Congratulations Brooke!!! You shouldn't assume that you've been exposed, but you can get your doc to request a test for the antibodies next time you get blood drawn. That way if you've been exposed already, you don't have to worry about it.

I've been around cats all my life including feral adults and kittens, and I tested negative for toxoplasmosis. Get your hubby to do litter duty anyway, it's a good excuse If you have to do it, just wash your hands well afterwards.

CONGRATS!!!! Being a mom is awesome Our three kitties have adapeted very well (and easily) to our DD.

I agree with everyone else about the litter boxes too, I always make DH do it *cough cough* just incase, lol I too testes negative for toxoplasmosis despite life-long exposure to cats

for a nice easy pregancy and baby!

Congrats!!! I'm due in April of next year (just like Miss Mew). DH cleans the boxes and won't let me near them, lol. I had to find all the sources that state that I can't clean them and once I convinced him there was potential to harm me if I did, he kinda of went a bit bonkers. I'm surprised he lets me still snuggle with the boys.

Congrats!

Hmm 33 cats in the house....this sounds like an easy way out of doing boxes a few good months

Its going to be pic fest in a few months for more then a few on here huh?!

Congratulations! Yes to what the others said; let DH do it!! Once you get a belly you aren't going to want to be bending over for long...it does not feel good! LOL!

I'm sure you will figure something out with your kitty's situations there. My 2 have adjusted to LO but they don't necessarily want to snuggle with her. I was trying to put her to bed tonight and she ran off chasing Noodles down the hall. Mooch gives her the evil eye when she disturbs her naps; but generally they are all ok. The kitties try to stay out of her reach; but it's getting harder! LOL!

Being a mom is wonderful and hard all at once. I've laughed more in the past 11 months than I did before. When it's hard I just think: if it wasn't worth it, people would not have a second child on purpose!

Enjoy your pregnancy!
