Hey everyone.

Mercy, my 4 month old kitten is itching his right ear constantly and holding it flat. We looked in his ear with a light and didn't see anything noticeable like redness or ear mites. Also when we rub on the outside of his ear, it sounds like there is liquid sloshing around in his ear.

He was fine this morning and we just noticed him doing this about 15 minutes ago. I'm gonna take him to the vet in the morning but in the mean time is there anything I can do for him to help with the itching or has anyone experienced this with a cat?

Thanks for your time.

I forgot to mention that he was neutered on Friday. He's been doing very well in that regard.

Also we found him in the road when he was 2 months old. He had ear mites at the time and it took a few vet visits to get rid of the mites. That was 2 months ago.

Could the mites be coming back by any chance? None of our cats are outdoors and we kept him away from our other 2 cats from the first day we brought him home and saw he had mites. The other 2 have never shown any signs of ear mites.

Midnight had ear mites when we first got him. The vet gave us Revolution Kitten and they never came back. He does have a lot of ear wax. Is it possible your's has ear wax?

Midnight will shake his head, and scratch the inside of his ear, sometimes it will fall out of his ear. You can can see it if you look in though. Where you said you couldn't see anything.

He does get wax is his ears and I remember the last time I took him to the vet for ear mites the vet said that he had a wax plug in one ear but he blew it off like it was not a big deal and said they would flush his ears when I brought him in for a neuter 2 months later.

I took him to a new vet for the neuter because there were some things about the old one that I did not like.

Keep an eye on it and if it continues, take him back to the vet. It's possible that he picked something up from the vet's when he was neutered. It could also be earmites coming back or an ear infection.

Yea I'll see how he is in the morning. Right now he is holding his ears normally and has stopped scratching. He is acting totally fine now.

It could also be allergies. My cats often have ear irritation from the various weather systems blowing through this time of the year.
