I volunteer at the Senior's Centre to drive folks who may need chemo or dialysis or older folks that just need a ride to go do their banking or groceries.
I volunteered at our neighborhood elementary school for 5 years while our daughter when there. I was in charge of the "callbacks" or "safe arrival" and managed the parent volunteers. I met a lot of parents doing that and made some very good friends!
I wanted to volunteer at the middle school, but it's very far away (moved while the original school is undergoing earthquake modifications), and also I've been doing a lot of work after my father died and left his estate in a huge mess. Guess that's my volunteer work right now.
No, I've been soo busy within the past few months. Before then, I was active at a volunteer organization at my school, where we did things like prepared meals for people with certain illnesses who were on a special diet at the hospital, and also volunteered at an elementary school where we tutored kids on Saturdays.
I really enjoyed those projects, but eventually I became so pressed for time, and I also really wanted to volunteer to help animals, but that wasn't an option with this organization, so this year i'm not active in it.
I don't plan to go back, but I do plan to volunteer in other ways when I finish with applying to law school and things go back to somewhat of a more normal routine for me.
I foster as needed for several of the local animal rescues since I used to work as a vet tech and don't mind taking in special needs furbabies or bottle babies
I'm also in training throughout the week with my Australian Shepherd, Ranger so that I can become a certified handler and he can become a certified therapy dog. Once he's passed all of his testing (CGC, and TDI) and he is insured, we will be visiting local hospitals, senior centers, and also praticipating in "Tail Waggin' Tutors" - it's a program that helps children to learn to read
I can't wait! We've been training for MONTHS now!!! He should be sitting for his Advanced test on his 1st birthday (January 27th!) and then we will prepare for his CGC test and after that, Therapy Dog International!
