Sophie continues to improve!

It seems that it is critical to "pill her" as consistently time wise and "pill size" as possible! Because the 2.5 mg tabs (amlodipine/norvasc) are quartered the size and therefore dosage varies somewhat!

She still can't hear but seems to handle that well, especially when she is now able to see quite well! She's back to her routine of frequent visits up the steps to our bed, and we don't have to worry about her falling off as she can see her way back down!

Her appetite has been great throughout this ordeal! She has been eating every bit of food in the bowl and she patiently sits in front of the door to her "Kitty room" when she needs more food! She is the most patient and loveable little girl and I am so thankful we took her to the specialist! We just pray she continues to enjoy vision!

It's great news!

We took our little Sophie to an animal Opthamologist in Jacksonville, Florida and found that one of her retina's was fully detached and the other was 70% detached! The detachments were due to high blood pressure, (250)
I'm glad I read further, because I was about to suggest getting her blood pressure checked.

My RB senior kitty Chynna
was on Norvasc for her high blood pressure, and the vet had told me that when a cat's blood pressure is high, it can damage the retinas leading to blindness.

I'm sorry it affected her hearing in a way that doesn't seem to be improving, but it's always so wonderful to hear she's seeing and the norvasc is working. She sounds like SUCH a sweetheart.

Continued for her!

An update on Sophie!

The sinus infection has flared up again so we took her back to the vet and she's now on a 10 day regimen of Clavomox pills! (2x/day for 10 days & possibly longer)

We are monitoring and trying to be very consistent time wise with her meds! Hopefully she will get over the infection without any vision loss! She is eating & drinking very well! We'll keep you informed! Thanks for all the prayers, good vibes and well wishes!

So glad to hear Sophie is doing well. She sure is a trooper, and a strong girl for her age.

Many prayers still coming your way.

Last night at 10:00 pm we noticed that Sophies blindness is back! She's been on clavamox pills for 6.5 days to try to get rid of the sinus infection! We have an appointment at the animal opthamologist in Jacksonville this morning!

We hope she doesn't have a retinal detachment again! Two weeks ago she went blind for about 12 hours and then her vision returned! We'll keep you apprised of her condition after the visit with the vet!

Prayers and vibes welcomed!

Fred & Diane for Sophie!

Well we're back from the opthamologist with good news! The Dr. doesn't believe the clavamox is the problem, more likely a dosage issue with the "norvasc/amlopidine"!

The good news is that after seven (7) weeks both retinas are fully attached! The Vet believes we are probably dealing with a dosing issue! The other good news is that Sophies blood pressure is down to 140! After she lost visiion last night I increased the dosage to 1/2 of a 2.5 mg Norvasc tablet with a 1/4 tab this morning @ 5:30 a.m.

It looks like the extra meds worked and about 30 minutes into the return trip home Sophie's eyes returned to normal and she looked out the car window and came to the front seat to "see" mom! Needless to say it brought tears to our eyes. It is heart breaking to see her wandering around the house to find her food and litter box!

The plan is to finish the clavamox to try to finally clear up the sinus infection. (We also give her saline drops, "little noses" baby drops to keep her breathing as clear as possible) The Norvasc dosage will now be 1/2 tab in the a.m. and 1/4 tab 12 hours later in the evening! Hopefully at this dosage level we won't have another set back!

Thanks to all for all the kind words
, prayers and good vibes!

Am glad to hear things are still going well for her, and good luck with the new dosage of meds.

Well it's been a real roller coaster for Sophie! Her vision seems to come and go! Right now it's back! She's been going for 12 or so hours without vision, where her eyes are fully dilated and they become greenish/marble like! The animal opthamoligist thinks she may have some degeneration of the retina! Both retinas are now fully attached and her blood pressure at last reading was 140 and he was pleased.

She now get's 1/2 tab of norvasc/amplodipine in the morning and 1/4 tab in the evening! We are trying really hard to be consistent with the dosage and timing! She just finished a 10 day regimen of clavomox for her sinus infection and we picked up another 10 day supply today! We still aren't sure if the vision loss is tied to the clavomox or the constant sneezing, mucus' runny nose etc.

Through all this Sophie has been so good about eating and using her litter box, but it breaks our hearts when she wanders around trying to get her bearings! We are not going to give up on her! Keep sending prayers and good vibes!

Let's hope she can kick this sinus infection (BTW, I don't remember - do you have her on L-lysine as well?) quickly, so if it is the clavamox affecting things, she can get past this!!!!

She's on Norvasc/amlopidine for the blood pressure, cyproheptadine a degongestant, Tapazole for the hyperthyroid, clavomox for the sinus infection, and "little noses" saline drops to keep her tiny nasal pasages open!

She's been great today, over 24 hrs of vision and walking up the steps to the bed to visit and "watch TV". We're not sure how much if any hearing she has!

Thanks for all the prayers and vibes!

Sophie's had a great couple of days with complete vision and she seems back to her normal self. She still has some sinus problems but she has six days to go on her second round of clavomox! Hopefully the infection will clear up! Well it's time for her evening meds and hopefully and some cuddle up time on the bed with "Mama". Unfortunately, "I'm not the Momma"! But she seems to know my "pilling" is an act of Love!
