Fantastic Shelter in Northern Illinois

Today I went to visit Tails in DeKalb, Illinois. What a tremendous place. It's so well designed and so well run. The cats are, for the most part, free roaming in 5 different rooms. They have a tremendous adoption rate, and the animals are so well cared for in a sunny, clean environment. They have a vet clinic, and a doggy day care that the shelter dogs can use.

I highly recommend it should someone need a shelter in the area.

Also, the adoption rates are very reasonable. Cats under 6 months are $95.00 and over 6 months are only $35.00. For that you get vaccinations, deworming, defleaing, spay or neuter, microchip, 30 days of Shelter Care insurance, bag of cat food, and more.

edit: Maybe this should have gone elsewhere, like the CAT SOS forum. Since they have mostly strays there, I thought this was the place. Please move this if it is in the wrong place.

Tx for sharing this good info and that good example!

Do they have some nice well though over strategy, or is it "simply" people prefer to adopt from good shelters better than from bad shelters?

It seems to be very good there. They are surely first rate people, but there is always the question about money and resources.
Do they have good sponsors behind them?

Not sure I understand questions, but here goes with a try.

A good shelter is nearly a no-kill one (only in most extreme cases are animals euthanized), clean, with good health care, good living conditions for animals, etc. With a shelter like this one, you can be sure you are getting a healthy, well taken care of animal. And you can bring the pet back at any time if you need to.

I posted this for people looking to adopt and those who may need to take in animals from time to time, if they find strays, for example.

The sponsorship seems to be good. The main building is only 5 years old, and the new building (doggy day care, grooming, vet clinic, and offices) was opened last spring. This shelter will be operating again in the black this year, so they must be doing something right. Almost all employees are original (going back 5 years when opened). That's a good measure, too.
