Playing with My Kitten

This sweet little 6 or 7 week old kitten came home with us today. We think his name will be Nero. Today he is in the guest bathroom with both wet and dry food, water, a toy, and a choice of two sleeping options. He apparently prefers the bathmat over the edge of the bath tub.

Tomorrow or Monday he'll get the run of the guest room in addition to the bathroom. And after that we'll turn him loose in the house. He's going to be an indoor only cat.

He has a lovely purr, so enthusiastic that sometimes there's an "under note" sort of vibrato. So sweet, isn't he though.

Along with a loud purr we've discovered he has a loud meow. Loud enough, in fact, that last night I woke up and heard him. (Once a mother, always a mother. When your babies cry you wake up.) Got up, down the hall, got him and, brought him back into bed with us. Oh did he love that! Purr, purr, purr. Also wiggle, wiggle, let's go explore. So back into his temporary quarters.

His name may be Poe, as in Edgar Allen. Suggestion from our daughter.

Have also discovered he's a shoulder cat. Loves to climb. Life is going to be very interesting in the next few months.

Be sure to keep us updated with frequent pictures! You know how we are. Don't forget to add his pic to the black kitties thread, too!

Stephanietx, how did you know what I was doing! Here our little guy, 24 hours older. I've learned that only images with his eyes open are worth keeping. If his eyes are closed all I get is a cat-shaped blob.

And can you tell me how to add already posted images images to a second thread? I wanted to make a reply to the black cat thread but when I tried to add an image it said I'd already put it here. Does that mean I can only have a particular image on one thread, not on more than one?

So glad you got a new kitten! And an adorable black one, at that! Such a good choice.

Please keep us updated with photos.

I have only posted photos a different way that you do, so I can't help with the trying to post on 2 threads problem.

May the little one (whatever his name turns out to be) bring you much pleasure. And yes, that kitten phase can be very interesting, and trying, at times. But they do grow up eventually.

Congratulations!

Robin

Oh my goodness. Poe is a dollbaby! I love the pic of him lying on the catscratcher (my Shadow does that, too). I love black cats.

There's apparently a little confusion here, since I've both mentioned that I'm working with kittens that were born-to-ferals at my veterinarian's and then said I brought Mr. Poe home. Be assured he's not fostering here, he's joined the family.

In fact, there will be another kitten joining our household but I don't know who or when.

The little deep orange male is FIV positive and I don't want to take him before a re-test shows him as negative. I did ask for a hold on him.

Then two more kittens came in from the same feral colony as Mr. Poe. I'm sure they are his half-brothers. Younger, gunky eyes, roundworms . . . . Another all black and the sweetest little black and white male. So I put a hold on the black and white too. He needs to be tested and his health issues resolved before he could go to a home.

But ONLY ONE can come live with us.

Does anyone remember the children's book by Wanda Gag, "Millions of Cats"? I think all cats are beautiful and would keep them all if I could.

Poe is a very fitting name for a little black cat! The writer Poe wrote a short story about "The Black Cat". He IS adorable!! I love the fact that you got up and found him and took him back to bed!!! You're a good mommy
