Releasing a feral cat in winter

My friend has trapped a feral cat and has had it inside for 6 weeks about. It is not coming around and is so scared it stays up in the box spring of the bed. She already has 3 cats and the limit at the apartment is 2 so she is in trouble. He has sprayed all over and she is at the end of her rope.

It is winter here how, although we are in a temporary warm up, 40 degrees. She feeds other feral cats so if she were to let him go, he would still get food.

I am so upset that I asked my DH to help her get him in a carrier as I just can't do it. She wants to take him to the SPCA and we all kinow what will happen there. My thoughts are, better free. I just wish it were not winter here.

What are your thoughts on letting him go? He will still have food. Oh this is such a mess. She can't bear the thought of him being cold. Well, I think he deserves to go back to the life he knew.

Thanks guys.

I agree wtih you. If he is used to this live, is a survivor, and healthy, he will make it. Especielly if he gets food to.

Has he been neutered? If not, do it before you release him.

And preferably release him when the weather is not too harsh. He has perhaps lost some of his touch being 6 weeks inside.

Tx for caring, and good luck!

I agree with releasing him as long as he's already been fixed. Provided he has food and shelter, he should be just fine and happier in the long run.
