My babygirl ( female siamese ) has been puking like crazy the past few days. It's obvious that I need to take her to a vet, but at this point in time I won't have the money for at least a few days.

Some background info:

- I have lived with her ever since she was a tiny kitten ( 4-6 weeks old ) and I have never seen this problem.

- I have recently moved into a new home, a townhome, and still have some unpacked things. I doubt though that she is getting into things that would upset her stomach because her environment now is not that different than before.

- Her puke is very liquidy and is a sort of neon green color. She started puking roughly 3 days ago and it was only about once a day but in the past 24 hours she must have puked at least 4 times. Being a siamese, she is very vocal and before she pukes she gives out a sort of painful noise for a couple seconds.

- She is still eating and drinking water but her behavior has changed. She normally resides in whatever room I am in but lately she will hang out in rooms where I am not in and places where she usually does not stay in.

I'm not asking for professional veterinary advice but I am curious if anyone has experienced this from their cat, and if waiting a few days would be ok.

Unfortunately, no it is not good to wait any longer. Your kitty is probably getting dehydrated and when that happens, lots of nasty things can occur. Her liver could get involved, kidneys etc. This usually happens quite fast.

How is she eliminating? There could be some kind of blockage. IMO this is nothing to wait about.

Please get to a vet. Does your vet have Care Credit? You can use it immediately. Apply at the vet or on line.

I can tell you love your girl, so please get her seen today. Tomorrow is Sunday and another day before she can get help. Unless you go to an E vet and you are looking at even more money then. If it was a child, would you wait. That is how I look at things when I am deciding what to do.

Good luck to you and please keep us posted. for your little girl.

She is pooping just fine and I don't know about urination.

I don't currently have a vet. The last one she went to they drugged her up so badly to the point where she was in a state similar to dementia. That was just for a yearly checkup and I don't trust them anymore.

Trust me, that fact that she is suffering really bugs the hell out of me. But I just don't have money right now. She is like a child to me. Don't even go there.

No credit cards?

If she were my cat I wouldn't wait, even if I had to borrow some money short term to get her looked at today.

It could very well be quite serious.

Think how you will feel if she is permanently damaged by waiting, even until Monday?

We do care here. And we would very much like to know how things go with your baby.

Wishing you and her the very best,

Robin

I wouldn't be surprised if she found something to get into, it's what cats are good at.

Did you thoroughly inspect the place before moving in? Often former residents or the landlords will have poison out for mice or roaches. Roach paste could be applied inside cabinets or along the bottom side of the front of cabinet (if your cabinets are like that) making it be out within cat reach.
Before we moved into our home a couple years ago I had to clean everything. I ended up finding 13 containers of mouse/rat base stashed inside the home. There were even more under it and in the shop building - I think the people that had been living here were a bit paranoid.

Another possibility is that she could have found some tape off of an unpacked box- cats love tape.

Get her to the vet ASAP and try to see if you can figure out what she got into.

I hate to be a prick but it needs to be done.

Did I not just state that I DON'T have money? That includes a credit card.

Listen here:

- I am getting
ed payroll-wise by my employer.
- Apparently I make too much to get Care Credit approval.
- I live in SW MN, which at the moment is getting so much
ing snow that EVEN VETERINARY clinics are closing early.

Don't even
ing ask me how I would feel If she was permanently damaged you
ing prick. I've cried more today than I have in the past several years collectively. I love my babygirl to death.

is wrong with you?

Btw, she is going into emergency when it's safe to drive around here.

Calm down. We see a lot of people come on here that let their cats suffer and possibly even die because they don't want to pay for a vet- it's why everyone urges people to go to the vet so much. We don't know you, so we don't know if you fall into that category, too.

Can you get a pay day loan? Or another small loan? If you're in a decent standing with your bank they may even approve a small loan. If you have a 401k you can usually borrow from that, too.

Please don't feel we're picking on you - but could you double check that Care Credit deal again - I got that just last year, and I didn't think there were income limitations on it. I'm glad you're getting her to the vet no matter what...and I wish you a safe drive.

This is not meant toward you, but a suggestion to anyone else reading - if you don't have a vet, or don't like your vet - start interviewing new vets now and become a client now, before you need a vet - find out which E-vet the regular vet uses, and, if none, find out exactly where your local E-vets are and how to get there. Nothing like driving to a strange place in the middle of the night with a sick pet.

And if humanly possible, build up a cash reserve, or have a credit card available for emergencies. A lot of times vets will work with good, established clients, but sometimes that option is not available.

What about family members and friends? Could you borrow money from them and pay them back later?

Where in SW MN? Some vets will allow you to pay on a payment plan.

With most major roads closed over the majority of southern MN - you won't be going anywhere too soon.

Call around and see about payments...

Care credit is normally easy to get if you have bordering decent credit up( no income restrictions on the high end ( friends make 6 figures and qualified and I made barely 5 figures a year and also qualified)

Hmmmm, you come here as a stranger, asking for advice, then attack people who want to help you and are very worried about your cat's welfare. What did you think you were going to hear? Several of us with many years of experience, with a lot of cats, think the situation sounds serious enough that we urged you to get professional advice for your cat ASAP.

This is a forum for people who care about cats. That is my interest and concern. Nothing is wrong with me. But I wonder what's the matter with you. Maybe you are upset, stressed out, worried, and not thinking clearly?

Maybe you don't have a credit card, but probably someone you know does. Or they would lend you money. Or you could have taken something to a pawn shop. Or called vets in your area this morning or yesterday and asked if they have any kind of payment options.

But now you are stuck in the snow. I hope everything turns out well. Really I do.

Positive vibes you to and your kitty:

Best wishes,

Robin

For real?

Attack people? No I attacked you. Your "If she were my cat..." really wasn't neccessary and if you would be in the same situation as me it wouldn't be any different.

And if she was permently damaged? I suppose you missed the part where I typed she is like a child to me. Yeah I'm stressed out, especially everytime I hear my cat let out a cry before she pukes. She won't even talk to me right now.

With the combination of the weather/day of week/personal money it just isn't going to happen tonight.

I called earlier and the only place open until Monday is the emergency vet which charges $112 just to see a doctor with a pay up front fee system. I've called around and it looks like I'm just not going to be able to get her in today. Nothing I can do about it. I could prolly get a loan from family but not tonight.

I'll try Credit Care again but I go turned down the 1st time and I don't know why.

I do beg you - if the weather allows safe driving - beg or borrow enough to get to the E-Vet tomorrow. That's a normal upfront fee (don't forget, most E-vets see a patient only once - and people are notorious for not paying the e-vets after the fact, sad to say).

I wish there were a better way to help you and your kitty.

Having just gone through a vomiting issue with my cat, I can attest to the fact that these things can get ugly very quickly.. one day she was eating, and the next, she refused all food.

I hope that you can get to the vet very soon. The weather must be making things so difficult for those out in the Midwest.

Best of luck.

Just a note to say we're thinking of you and your kitty - and hoping the weather gets better for you to travel if you must....I read that things are not good in MN today.

Update on Sasha, the cutest cat in the world ( No joke, I'll prove it if you don't believe me )

So the snowstorm Saturday prevented me from taking her anywhere. Finally got her into the emergency vet Sunday night.

They took an xray ( which turned out very well ) and gave her shots of Subcutaneous Fluid Admin and Famotidine. One was to get her body replenshed with fluids and the other to act as pepsid ac. Her behavior returned back to normal and she stop puking until that one shot wore off.

Orders were no food until the morning of Monday. She puked twice Monday and wouldn't eat or drink so I took her into a vet Monday evening.

At that clinic she:

- Had a CBC ( Complete Blood Count ) Marshfield test
- Vetscan Diagnostic Profile - Feline test.

Both tests turned out good except that her pancreas was slightly worse than normal but that was expected under conditions of a cat puking so much. She was even more so herself during this visit as she was defiant and hissing at the vets. She also recieved a Cerenia Injectable and S.Q. Supportive Fluid Therapy shots. Doctor's orders again no food/water until morning.

I fed her in the morning then left for work. I came back home during lunch break to see if she had eaten and she hadn't. Before going back to work I left her her normal dry food that she has been eating for 7 years, some yummy chicken wet food, and a combination of liquid food and wet food which the 2nd vet injected into her and she was volutarily eating. I come back home and she didn't touch any of it.

Now:

She is her normal vocal self. Alert. Has energy. No puking in the past 14 hours. Behavior and attitude ( cute ) is 99% normal but I just can't get her to eat!!!

The past two visits ran me $593 ( and i'm poor ) and another multi-hundred dollar visit I just have no way of doing anymore. Btw she hasn't lost any weight between the visit Saturday. There is a pee clump in the litter but no poop ( normal considering not eating and getting nutrients through needle injection )

Any tips on how to get her to eat? The food, especially the yummy stuff she does walk up to and smell but then walks away from.

Chicken or turkey baby food (make sure it doesn't have onion or garlic powder in it) might work. If you warm it up a bit it's nearly irresistable to kitties.

If she absolutely won't eat, get a large dropper (the kind they use to give babies liquid meds) and force-feed her the baby food, or another semi-liquid food. If she goes too long without eating anything her liver will fail. It's a last resort, because it will make her MAD, but necessary. Sometimes after being force-fed once or twice, a cat will decide to eat on their own. Like priming the pump, I suppose
. But do try the other suggestions first.

Please, try your best to feed your kitty, no matter what... it's been too long now, and bad things can happen to her liver if she goes on without food anylonger...
There is a lot of helpful information on this link :http://www.assistfeed.com/FeedingTechniques.htm
No matter what you do, she HAS to eat... Do not let her go another day...
