Help, cat keeps licking bed linen and clothes.....

We got a kitten in March. When she is happy and settles down to sleep she starts licking our bed linen and sheets for ages and leaves it sopping wet. When people come round she jumps on your knee and licks away leaving a big sopping wet area. It seems to only happen when she is happy and beginning to settle to sleep. She does it to my childrens bed linen while they are sleeping. I really don't like it and have not come across it before with cats I had years before. How can I stop it. I thought she may grow out of it but it's getting worse if anything. Help me please.

Was your kitten at the shelter when she was really young? Suckling is common in kittens who were seperated from their mothers too young and weaned at too young of an age. There's not really anything you can do about it, it's a product of how she was raised before you got her. That suckling is all instinctual, and that instinct was never allowed to run its course when your kitten was at the correct age. Some kittens grow out of it, but I've heard of older cats who still suckle on their favorite blanket or something. You can try putting her by her food when she does this, it may be an indication that she is hungry since suckling is how young kittens get milk from their mothers.

Midnight does that, he has a blanket that he sucks on all the time. He'll purr really loud, and knead while doing it. I think it was because he was away from his mother to young. He was 3 weeks when my mother's friend found him outside her house, and gave him to us. He's 4 months old and does this all the time. Mostly at night.
