Just received the third edition Cat Owners Home Veterinary Handbook. Current with all the new diseases recently showing their ugly side, like the mutated calici virus, vaccine protocols,LUTD, Nutrition, Flea Prevention, new drugs on the market today and the effect they have on cats- this book has it all! Three veterinarians; Debra M. Eldridge DVM, Delbert G. Carlson DVM and Liisa D. Carlson, DVM, and one medical doctor James M. Griffin, MD pooled their knowledge, experience and resources to update this book. The book is edited by Beth Adelman so you know the facts are right on the money. Buy this book for Christmas- it is a real treasure!

I have this book and agree that it's a good resource to keep around the house!

I almost wonder if this might be a dangerous tool for some though. A long time friend of mine is a GP, and one of his complaints lately is that he's seeing more and more patients incorrectly diagnosing and treating themselves based on online medical resources, rather than consulting him first w/ years of experience and a very expensive long education (or worse yet contradicting him and asking for a treatment he hasn't diagnosed). I'm sure its awesome though to be informed so you know to recognize and prioritize a problem, as long as peeps don't use it for a vet replacement.

I have my copy of this book and it's excellent!! I don't think a responsible cat owner would use it as a replacement to vet care.

The book sounds great! Thanks for the tip! I see how it could be a problem if people use the book in replace of vet care - but really it's no different than hopping on the internet and googling or hoping a forum can answer your vet questions - in fact it's probably better.
Responsible pet owners will know that there is no substitute for veterinary care.

For anyone wanting to sample this - you'll find it on Google Books.

And...for a much better price, go to Amazon (cheaper again via E-Book).
