Eye Stye?

Anyone ever have an eye stye?

I wound up having to go to the doctors today, because the bottom of my eye is really hurting. My vision is blurred, my eye itches but it hurts so much I can't itch it. It's not watering but it feels like it's going to. It hurts to blink, hurts to close the eye. The doctor said it was a stye just to keep a hot cloth on it. The wind really hurt it. I hated going out of the house for my appointment, and for Midnight's appointment.

How long does this last?

I can't pass this on to my kittens right?

I had a horrible eye infection the end of last Summer, I couldn't even get out of bed it hurt to move. She said this wasn't the same thing. I hope it's not. That lasted for over a week, I was on 2 different meds for that. I stayed as far away from my cats as I could, afraid I'd give it to them.

While I haven't had a sty for a few years I've had them in the past. The only thing that helps is like the doc says a hot compress to the part of the eye where the sty is. Mine seemed to take only a day to two to feel better.

My mother used to tell me the old wive's tale is that they are caused by peeing by the side of the road. What do you think she was trying to tell me?

I see that they are actually staph infections of oil glands at the base of the eyelash. Treatment is cool compresses several times per day. They usually clear up in just a few days, with no lasting damage.

My dd had several of them while she was on Accutane. She said they hurt. Warm washcloths over the spot helped clear it up, usually in just a few days.

Good that you're having it looked at - usually, if you recognize a stye starting, warm compresses can help a lot.

Ouch, I can really sympathise hun, they are very painful, I tend to get them when I am under stress and they can last anything from a couple of days to over a week, try and relax and it should help.xx

I used to get them when I was a teenager. I worked in a restaurant and somebody told me it was from handling money then rubbing my eyes. Don't have a clue why. warm compresses helped. I hope you're rid of it soon, they aren't fun

It's going away now, only bothers me every once in awhile. I've never had 1 before. Until this Summer I never had any eye problems before.

I've had dozens and dozens of them. Probably because I habitually rub my eyes and I used to have allergy problems. My senior year of high school I kept getting them so I went to see my doc. Waste of time.

I've had my whole bottom eyelid swell up with them before. The warm washcloth thing is the best cure and best relief I know of. They usually take just a day or 2 to go away. Sometimes and extra day or so to completely go away.

ETA: Eye problems can be no joke. In 2007 I got an infection in the cornea of my right eye from over-wear of my contacts. My eye doctor didn't diagnose it as that right away. He hurried me off to a neurologist to make sure there wasn't something else going on. It took almost a whole month for me to get my vision completely back in that eye. I was at the eye doctor like 2 or 3 times a week for most of that time too. It was the most expensive infection I have ever had. LOL I rarely wear contacts anymore. They have never been as comfortable since the infection and I'm home with my baby now so they are more of a hassle if I want to nap. Although it would keep me from washing finger prints off my lenses all the time....

I used to wear contacts. I have allergies so eventually that started interfering with the allergies, so I had to stop wearing them.

Last Summer I got a thing called cellulitis in my left eye. It was almost swollen shut. That hurt more than anything! I think it came from dust, from cleaning my room. I went to 1 doctor who thought it was something else, treated it for something else, and I wound up allergic to the eye drops he gave me. I had blood dripping from my eye. I really freaked out when that happened! I did go to another doctor who was able to clear it up, but I almost wound up in the hospital and almost had to have surgery.

A whole month without vision in your eye? I'd have freaked out. I did freak out for that 1 week last Summer, but I still had vision just a little blurry. Same with this stye I still had vision just a little blurry.

I had vision; but it was very very blury!! Like almost useless in a way. Even watching tv and reading were uncomfortable. Sitting at the computer was very very difficult too. I actually had my mother drive me around the first time I saw the eye doctor and neurologist since DH was working. We first thougth I'd gotten some wasp killer in my eye; or maybe a piece of drywall. Then DH noticed you could litterally see that my cornea was swollen. It was pretty uncomfortable but mostly scary. I was using lots of drops and ointments for several weeks. I kept up lubricating drops for a while too. There were times I'd feel like I was going to have an anxiety attack because I was so scared it wouldn't come back.

I've had big stys that made my vision seem a little off; but I think it's just because it was so swollen and stuff. I hope your better or nearly there now!
