Why? I just don't understand, its 2010 and everything science can do it could only make guesses for poor Akihiko, one of most amazing animals I ever meet. A cat barely 30 months old, it just isn't right. The apartment is cold, lifeless and empty. I'm past hyperventilating but I so sick to my stomach and life just seems to have lost alot of vivid colors now.

All the food trials, more then I can count on my fingers, antihistamines, litters, environment cleaning, numerous vet clinics and scrub downs, shots, steroids, cleaners, biweekly vet visits. Nothing could seem to stop this cat from the final outcome of what just transpired this week , becoming so allergic to food he could no longer eat without howling pain and yellow fluids all over. My dad tried to tell me it was in his genes, there was just something unavoidable but I'm not sure I did completely right by him. A road with many paths opened for him, ladies feeding him milk and hot dog buns and my know it all self coming into my dads work trying to feed and care for him better then that. I wonder though while he would not had vet care as the only offer was from a lady that insisted she didnt believe in it, yet if he ended up on that farm with so many cats and likely crappy dry food if he could have avoided this fate somehow. I dont feel I did right by him. Thank you all for putting up with many threads the last two and half years. Its going be very cold long winter.

That's so terrible. So painful. So sad.

It is entirely understandable, and typical that you blame yourself. But that is the grief. It is not rational.

You did so much to help your cat. You did your best. I'm sure he knew that. It doesn't change the outcome, or relieve the pain, but please don't blame yourself. He doesn't blame you.

Maybe it was just something he was born with that couldn't have been helped no matter what. Everything is not controllable, or solvable.

He had the best life he could have had with you, with the cards he was dealt.

Please accept my sincere sympathy for the loss of you beloved kitty.

Honey, you worked so hard, you tried so hard. Robin said it perfectly. It is natural that you blame yourself, but it is not rational. Of course feeding him properly and getting vet care did not cause this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your hurt is big and raw, but
Aki
is free - eating all the hot dog buns and drinking all the milk he wants - if that's what he wants to eat. I know he had a happy home, a wonderful meowmy, and he would never want you beating yourself up for something you tried so hard to fix.

I'm so sorry, sweetie, I'm just so sorry.

I look at these other apartment cats, only offered generic dry food, never been to a vet since spay/neuter, some with chain smokers and they are 11-15 years old. Maybe it was overboard all this premium wet food and vet trips. It was my first time doing wet only and not sure I would do that again, how quick their teeth get bad and I had this fear about his health after the cleaning, even made a thread here about it. Two weeks later.... Will always wonder if early on if I stuck with dry or something else if this wouldn't have transpired.

Oh sweetie, I am so so sorry.
You had no control over this, and as much as you wish there was something more you could have done, you DID do all that you could. Rest in peace little one...

Some things in life are just simply beyond our control, and nothing we do can change that. I'm very sorry for your loss. , Aki.

What a beautiful little face - and, no, you tried everything you could - sometimes it really is just the cards we're dealt - look at all the people who would be the best parents, and yet are infertile - while other folks who couldn't take care of a goldfish are able to conceive and carry to term.

He couldn't have been more loved while he was here - or while he's waiting for you at the Rainbow Bridge.

I'm so sorry sometimes there is no reason or answers..“Perhaps they are not stars, but rather openings in heaven where the love of our lost ones pours through and shines down upon us to let us know they are happy.
