Question for my friend pooping outside of litter box

Hi all, not a question for me for once,
My friend has two 8 month old kittens, infact if anyone knows my Harvey story they are Harveys children, she had them off my next door neighbours. She has Poppy and Toby, they are both fixed and Toby is fine but Poppy is very boisterous and also has started pooping outside of her tray. They have a tray each and have eaten the same brand of food since they were kittens. My friend said that the poop is very runny. Now she was at the vets last week and has had bloods and tested for uti and been given the all clear and the vet can't give her any answers, my friend is unsure what to do, Toby is fine. Could it be the food after the same brand all this time? and why is she pooping outside her tray? She uses the tray ok in the day but its at night she poops outside, this is bothering her and the diarroeah really (sp). She is fine in herself but always climbs on work surfaces and is generally very naughty, she is just the complete opposite of Toby and my friend is at her wits end. xx

Did your friend talk to the vet about the runny poop? That's definitely an indication that something's not right. It could be worms, food allergy, stress related, or she could've eaten something off the floor that she shouldn't have. I'd increase the boxes to 3 (1/cat + 1 extra) and ask the vet to do a fecal test for worms.

Yes she did the vet just said it could be the food but offered no help, she feeds them Whiskas meat and dried food but has just been giving Poppy dried food lately but it has made no difference. She also has been drinking ut the kitchen tap alot even though they have water available. Worms she has been tested for and was clear, both cats have been wormed recently. My friend is just very concerened especially as her brother is fine and is fed and treated the same way, its a bit baffling and the vets arent much help. She asked whether feeding her chicken or something lighter than cat food would help? x

I think finding a vet who seemed a bit more concerned is the first place to start. If this runny poop thing has just started, it's not the food most likely. It could be some other type of intestinal parasite such as giardia. Definitely need a second opinion and a fecal test for starters. May even want to get a blood test to make sure everything else is as it should be.

As for food, she could try shredded boiled chicken, but that's probably going to upset her tummy, too. She can try a higher quality food to see if that helps.

Thankyou, I shall tell her to take her to another vet, I think it needs investigating further, she didn't want to just change foods incase it upset her further. x

I'm sorry, I can't get past your Title.

Maybe your friend needs a bigger litter pan. ?

Oh my gosh I have just realised that I think I should have put a "-" in between the friend and pooping, oops, it doesn't sound great. x
