HI. My Standard Munchkin, Falkor, I noticed has some type of skin problem/ wound on his neck (on the underside). I feel bumps in the scabby drainy area, but also feel a couple of bumps on other areas of his neck ( like behind the ear reigion). He has long hair, so I can't "see" really well what is going on. Does anyone have a clue what this might be? I used some diluted alcohol to clean it a couple of days ago, and that seemed to have helped a little. Are there some suggestions on how to go about treating this before having to drag him to the doctor yet again? He is my really anxious cat, and its tough enough to catch him, let alone take him to the vet. Not to mention the cost!

It is strange that the cat I got from a breeder cost me the most in vet bills. hmmm

I have a friend who has a cat with allergies, and she gets a rash under her collar as a result. That's one thought...

Not at all. Purebreds in all animals are known to have weaker immune systems than mixed breeds. It even applies to humans. Some of the more hideous (in terms of what they actually do) genetic diseases are mostly around due to them being present in royal families, like hemophaelia in the heirs to Queen Victoria.

My cat has had the same kind of problem, for a few months now... Recently my vet came to the house to see her, and when he felt her fur he could feel some scabs (mostly around her head and neck, but she has long hair so it's kind of difficult to feel them).

He thought it was due to an allergy, maybe a food allergy. I switched her food, but she still has the same problem. I noticed that she scratches herself a lot, and that must be where she gets the scabs from. My vet didn't say much to me about what to do! If anyone has suggestions, i'm all ears.

It is most likely an allergy to something. Does he wear a clooar? My Bonaparte has allergies to metal and to some medicaments, and gets bumpuy scabs on his neck and around his 'armpits', if you get where I mean. When he wore a collar he got really itchy scabs until I too it of. The vet gave me Limassol ointmetn which helped, and now I just am very careful with any product on him. Most of the time, including summer when he gets a bit of heat rash, it doesn't seem to bother him though I can feel the bumps.

I had a longhaired cat who developed a similar problem after being shampooed. The scabs got so bad he licked off all his neck fur and he scratched them open so badly his neck was covered with open sores. During this time I took him to 4 different vets, each of whom said something different, from a flea allergy to food allergies. I was on the verge of having him PTS when someone suggested I take him to the University of Wisconsin Veterinary Teaching Hospital. There, they did a biopsy and diagnosed him with eocinophilic plaque. They treated him with steroids - this involved teaching me to give him injections - and he started improving immediately. He went on to live to be almost 20. I wish I had taken him to the teaching hospital right when I first noticed the original scab, because then it wouldn't have progressed as much as it did. I am forever grateful to them for this.

I have two nonstandard Munchkins. One had problems with a weepy eye, the other with flatulence, but both conditions were easily treated and now they are radiantly healthy.

I am having the same issue with one of my kittens. One DR told it was from stress or a food allergy. Another thought it was from "playing". My vet gave her a cortisone shot and it made them disappear. I have switched her to a food she ate before these showed up. If your vet doesn't give you an answer I'd go to another one. Good luck hope you find out what it is
