Sniggles is going to be 4 mos, on the 15th. She's scheduled to go in for a spay sometime after that, we have to check finances.... anyway.

Not every single day but some days... she smells musky, not musTy, just heady and ummmm earthy smelling. No way to describe it really. It's not like she's been in the litter box and got stuff on her or anything either.

Would she be ramping up to start going into a cycle? She's not doing a butt dance either, it's just like she gets on me and it's "whew Snigg... you are FUNKY".

I feel like such a dummy, I've had 11 cats in my life, all adopted, all older and all spayed or spayed soon after I got them. So, heat and the like confounds me.

And another question, do male kitties hump like dogs? My neighbors barn cat comes to see me once in awhile when I sneak out for a smoke on the back porch and he'll grab my leg with his front paws, and bite my knee and hands and rub himself all over me like crazy... is he smelling Sniggle maybe? It's getting pretty awkward with him. Maybe we need to get her in sooner than I thought. Because she's really interested in looking out the door when I come home and he's really interested in me when I go out there and I'm afraid I'll have kittens myself LOL (I'm spayed too, completely so I don't think it's me he's interested in).

Ok was all that clear as mud?

I'm thinking it's because she's not spayed and that's just her body smell. I'm sure it has something to do with hormones.

Yes, your cat is in heat or gettnig ready to be in heat. Cats smell weird when in heat, because of all the pheramones they're producing to attract a mate. If you think she smells strong, imagine how she must smell to a tomcat looking to mate. Pay extra close attnetion that she does not get outside before you spay her, or you WILL have kittens in two months.

I have another odd suggestion, and you'd think with being around dozen upon dozens of cats that I would have encountered this before.

I have one female that when really worked up until she is purring and kneading will kind of pooch her butt out a bit? Just a tiny bit, and then I smell kitty butt.
It doesn't smell like poop or her anal glads (which are perfectly fine), just a musty sort of "butt" smell.
I think it's some sort of clinchy behavior left over from young kittenhood when mother's grooming meant there would be a butt cleaning to follow..

And while yes, your kitty needs to be spayed soon, check to see if she's doing that at all. I'm curious if anyone elses cats do this.

I had no clue that they'd exude a smell that I'd be able to detect. I'm glad I know now - I will watch her extra careful now. She's always been such a little lover, and she's really ramped up her play time lately, she's beating the crud out of the older cat now. They play rough, but they seem to have a good time.

OK we're calling for an appt. this afternoon, we don't want kittens no way - no how. We just ran into a financial hitch and couldn't get it done last month.

Thank you for your answers

Look to see if there are any low cost spay/neuter clinics in your area. I got my kitty done for $40.

We have one male that has always been a little stinky. We affectionately call it ass-bo...because he has B.O. but from his you-know-what.
