Is there a good specifically kitten canned food that is somewhat cheaper but somewhat healthy as wellness kitten canned? I cannot afford to spend 30 something dollars for a case that will last me less than a month. My kitten Jacob still needs the kitten stuff and I want a good start in life for him (since he has come here to live with me at least) and provide him with decent food. I CAN pay for it if I HAVE to but I have a min. wage job and most of the cat food purchases land on my end instead of my BF's.

IMHO... look at by nature , blue, nutro natural choice , authority , solistic and chicken soup , BFF are all around or slightly over $1 for a 5.5 oz can ( on sale some are 60 cents )...

I just picked up some Authority kitten cans, which weren't too $$ - and Lola liked them.

Thanks, I decided to go with a few of each of your selections see which one Jacob likes the best. I will be going to the pet store today.

Some good brands you can find at pet stores are Wellness, Natural Balance, Merrick, and Chicken Soup. Wet food is much better for your cat than dry.
Welcome to TCS ... Have you actually read labels? If you had at the grocery store you would know that you can indeed find : By product, grain and veggie free formulas .... The ones you list are often filled with grains and veggies depending on formula..I can actually list five brands off the top of my head.

The only label that should matter is the ingredients and guaranteed analysis. If Wellness Adult formula trumps cheaper kitten brands in this area, the fact that it doesn't say kitten on the label is moot.

The best way to save on quality food is to buy in bulk. The smaller the bag or the smaller the can, the price skyrockets for the exact same food.

I used to feed the 3oz Wellness Kitten formula to my cats until I did some research. Now I'm feeding 12.5 oz cans of Wellness Adult, which per oz is about half the cost of the 3 oz kitten cans.

On the dry, its almost perfectly identical formulas, on the wet there is a very small difference on protein/fat content, and only a 2 calorie (insignificant) difference. Feeding a minuscule amount more of the adult equates their kitten formula, and still exceeds cheaper "kitten specific" brands. And personally, I prefer that the adult formula has slightly lower ash for urinary tract health for the male.

I ended up paying around $51 for 72 cans of Nutro Max Cat Kitten cans (a case each of all three flavors)

Probably not the BEST kitten/cat food out there, but it WAS the best I could afford at the moment and I am mixing one can of that kitten food with 1 can of Soulistic cat food (he likes the wet/gravy-like texture better than the pate) in addition to about 1 - 1 1/2 cups wellness core, shared by both cats per day. It says on the back of the Soulistic, for adult maintenance.

He is the skinnier of the two and I often let him finish my other cat's wet food if she doesn't finish it all :p usually, I am guessing, when I put the dry in the room they go in while we are away, my female probably hogs the dry more.

its only till this April I want kitten food, when he turns 1 year, the reason being he is kinda skinny (not overly though, more IMO) and hasn't filled out much since Halloween.

Just for a little extra something I guess..
