Best sort of scratch mats for cats?

They come in different textures. I found some really soft ones he likes to scratch into.

These sorts of mats on the right. They cost around $2 at cheap shops.

My cats prefer the sisal scratchers or carpet ones. My oldest cat likes the cardboard scratchers.

I found some cardboard ones at walmart.. they have a plastic base, it can be mounted on the wall (verticle or at an angle), hung from a door, or flat on the ground.. and they sell replacement cardboard to put inside it

I got a few of these and put them near some of targeted scratching areas.. the cats are going for the scratchers, and leaving my walls and woodwork alone! I wish I found these things a few years ago!

I think they are made by smarty cat?

I've had the best luck with sisal-covered boards that can be hung on walls and bound sisal rugs not actually intended for cats.
