Yes, it's me again, asking more nutrition questions! My CRF cat, among others, is very finicky and I am trying to get him to eat any and everything (per our Vet), and right now it seems the only wet food he has any interest in is Meow Mix Market Selects, Salmon and Crab. I checked the ash% in it, and it's the same (3%) as in the chicken flavor, so not sure if that's a problem or not, plus I can only get him to eat 1 "tub" of it per day. I think they are 2.5 oz, so really, that's not all that much. PLUS, he doesn't really eat the fish, just mainly gobbles up the juice, to which I add water and his Cosequin and Miralax.

I have tried so many other brands and varieties of canned food, to which he turns his nose up. He used to like Fancy Feast Gravy Lovers, but now refuses even that. Guess he's holding out for this Salmon and Crab stuff.

Am I doing him a dis-service by giving this to him? He's 15 years old. BUT, when he's done, Darko and Stinkpot (20 months) come in and finish up what's left in the bowl. Again, it's not very much, but it IS every day!

when they first came out they were actually decent to good... now they are filled with sugar, nitrates and some multiple grains...

What Sharky said. Meow Mix is not so great...

HOWEVER...if your cat is 15 years old and refuses to eat anything else, my very unprofessional opinion would say that it's ok to let him eat that. Especially if he's eating it willingly vs. you having to force feed him. I know of cats who've lived their whole lives on the worst dry/wet foods and been fine and I don't think it's that big of a deal. (That being said, I personally feed my cats grain-free froofy stuff but...). Plus, right now you want your kitty to have the best quality of life and if that food makes him happy (and doesn't make him sicker) then that's great.

As for your other cats, I don't think the remnants will hurt them, especially if they are eating better stuff as their main diet anyway. If they do start getting diarrhea or anything, I guess I'd stop letting them scavenge
it but otherwise, it should be fine.

GOOD LUCK!
