Swiffer Wet-Jet Owners-Opinions, Please

Not an earth shattering question and not an expensive product, but I want to know if I'd be wasting my money.
Menard's has the Swiffer Wet-Jet on sale; I went out to look at it and as I read the box I discovered it takes 4 AA batteries. Huh? Why does a mop need batteries? Aside from the battery question, does it do a good job?
Like I said, not earth shattering but I am a major tightwad.
Thanks for the input.

I had a wet jet and I wasn't impressed. The batteries are so it can spray the junk on the floor. It didn't really seem to do a good job, IMO, and it left a sticky film on the floor.

Now I just use a Libman Wonder Mop (the orange and white strips of fabric kind) and I just wash it with bleach water in the washing machine after every use so it doesn't get nasty. I can use whatever floor cleaner I want that way.

I was thinking about this wet-jet thingy so I wouldn't have to lug a bucket around. I thought I'd read somewhere that they left the floor streaky. Thanks for the help!

My mom had one, and I wasn't impressed, either, but I'm spoiled by my steam cleaner.

I got one a while back and threw it away within the first 2 uses. Not only did it leave the floor sticky but it took almost a whole box of cleaning pads to mop my old kitchen floor. I used to have a huge kitched in my old apartment the one I have now is small but I much prefer carrying around my mop and bucket over the wet jet.

I was thinking about getting a swiffer dry for minor touch ups on the floors however it would be useless for picking up the pieces of wood from the wood stove.

One product I highly recommend is a bissel 3 in 1. Its a corded sweeper and is amazing on hardwood floors and it converts from a full sweeper to a hand held and then to the hand held with an extended handle all by removing 2 pieces or adding one piece. Its awesome I love it for sweeping up the ash or wood pieces off my floor by the wood stove.

I have had a Swiffer one and the Clorox brand one, but didn't like having to buy the pads and solution for either, I thought they were too expensive. I they were fine on my floors for basic cleaning, but obviously not for serious cleanups or major grime. Now I have a Libman Freedom Mop. You can fill it with whatever solution you want, and the pad is washable so you don't have to buy those refills. Neither of the ones I had used batteries, they the trigger type from before they had the battery ones. The Libman is a trigger system also.

My MIL has one. DH and I by habit do not wear shoes in the house (its gross to do so!) and even right after using it her floor is still filthy. Streaky and our socks end up dirty.

I just use regular mops - a sponge mop with a wood floor sponge for the wood floors. Sure, I don't like carrying water around, but I like being able to rinse cat hair and grit off of the mop instead of continually pushing it around the floor.

I've never had the spray one, just the old Swiffer wet mop. I too thought it annoying and expensive to have to buy the pads all the time, I don't think they do a good job and have given up on it.
Now I just use a sponge mop.
I also have this large microfibre flat mop (actually meant for dusting the walls & ceilings) but I use it to put on floor polish and it works very well.

I don't lug a bucket around. My mop has a thing on it that wrings a lot of the water out of the mop head, and then I just carry it to the different parts of my house that I need mopped. I keep the water in my sink...and then in turn it actually cleans my sink out for me. lol

See that white thing on the handle? It goes down over the mop part and you twist it to get a lot of the water out. Then, when you carry the mop around, it isn't dripping water all over the place. I love it.

Libby, I used to have a cleaning business. This is what you need:

Now go to your local janitorial supply store and pickup a couple of spray bottles and some all purpose cleaner concentrate. Mix about 1/2 oz of the cleaner in a quart spray bottle filled with water. This is absolutely the best way to clean any hard surface floor - tile, wood, laminate, etc.!

The pads are washable and reusable. The aluminum frame will last forever. The cleaner is dirt cheap and a gal. will last for months, or even years!

I had one, and wasn't impressed with it.

I'd save your money and invest in a steam mop. I have one and love it. Or if you don't want to spend a whole lot they have something similar stuff out there to swiffer that doesn't take batteries and you can use your favorite cleaner in it and that saves money in the long run. I found a review on two that are out there. http://www.goodhousekeeping.com/prod...will-floor-you

I guess I am going to be different here. I have one and I love it. The pads are a little expensive though. I use it in between mopping and every time I can't believe how much dirt is on the pad after.

Swiffer also offers a money back guarantee if you don't like it.

The Swiffer solution triggers my asthma, at least it did 5 years ago (I've stayed away from it since).

We have one and use it for spot cleaning if (ie if something gets spilled), but not for a complete cleaning. It actually worked better on our laminate wood floor in the family room than it did on the kitchen floor. The solution does tend to streak though if you use to much of it. If you have to clean up little messes it's good for that, but that's about it.

I love mine, too. I don't find that it leaves the floor streaky or sticky, and my socks are always clean afterward. I like how the solution smells (I use the Febreze lavender one) and I can clean all 3 of my hard floors with one pad, so the price isn't too bad. Maybe I'm just not good at mopping, but the floor never seemed to get clean when I used a mop (either the Libman's rag mop or a sponge mop).

Even though I do like the WetJet, if I didn't already have one I'd probably get the kind that lets you use your own solution. It's a pain not being able to mop if I run out of WetJet solution. I do have some reusable pads I bought on eBay, but they don't clean as well as the disposables. I only use them for small jobs.

Having to buy batteries is a pain, too, but they last a long time.

What I didn't like was the wet pads for the regular Swiffer. They don't stay wet long enough.

Thank you! I was beginning to feel like the Lone Ranger.
