Jake for example will announce his presence whenever he comes into a room and someone is in it. I've noticed that he only does that if I don't notice him coming in. If I'm looking at him as he comes in he just looks at me back, but if I don't see him he says "mrrraww"
Also when he decides to go somewhere he will tell us where he's going. Like, if he is sprawled up with his paws in the air on the rug and people are in the room, and he decides to do something randomly as gets up he says "mrrraaah"

So when do your kitties talk and what are they saying ??

wasn't talkative. When he meowed we ran to see what was wrong with him. He did sit in the window in the Summers and meow to us if we were outside. When he did meow it sound like he was saying the word "mom".

Luna meows all the time. She's very talkative. She is very talkative in the morning. She has a purr/meow that she does whenever she wants to play with Midnight. She'll also make that sound if she's playing with her toys by herself. She meows whenever she's hungry and needs her food dish refilled. Luna does meow words "dad" "now" "no" "down" "yeah"

Midnight was quiet when he first came here. Now he does talk more, every so often. He has a cute little meow. You should hear him purr. I've never heard a cat purr as loud as him, even when he was 3 weeks old!

Velvet is my chatty kitty. She will run right up to me and announce her presence with little squeaks and long drawn out meows (sounds like she's a 40 yr smoker haha)

If she wants me to pick her up and carry her around (like a parrot) then she will give me a few short meows and slap me with her paw
It's really cute!!!<3

Isabella chirps and have a really sweet little voice- that's usually if she wants something to eat.

Kojak really doesn't meow a ton, but he purrs a lot and drools everywhere, so I guess that makes up for it!

Nora is very talkative. She will actually carry on a conversation with us. If we ask her a question, she will answer back, and so on. She is always talking to us, all throughout the day. I love it.

Tails will chirp and trill when he wakes up and I'm not in the room. He runs around chirping until he finds me or I call his name. If i meow back, we have a ping pong match until he sees me. He also meows while I'm portioning the wet food out, but this one is even more high pitched than his wake up chirp.

Sometimes he'll randomly meow (more of a "raaaaaaahhhrrr") when nobody is paying attention to him, which changes that pretty fast.

Memphis isn't very talkative, unless someone is picking him up (he makes a sound similar to a little kid making that last sniffling noise after pouting and crying in the supermarket), or he's getting a REALLY good scratch/stretch in on the cat tree. That's when his siamese side comes in with the baby crying meows. Oh, and he snorts and makes weird choking meows (kind of an "ehk!" sound) when him and Tails are sparring.

Lazlo, Sheldon, Spooky, and Tuxedo were siblings all brought inside at different times. Their mom taught them not to talk. I think Lazlo got left behind on the first family excursion because he wouldn't shut up. So Lazlo was our only talker for a while, and he wasn't talking to us. The rest didn't start talking until we adopted Flowerbelle - who is deaf, and can't hear herself talking.
Even then, it took them about a year or so... and the three of them have the funniest voices - having gone unused for three years.

Flowerbelle chirps the cutest little chirps when she wants treats or play or attention. If we don't listen the first time around, she has the funniest sounding little bark.
She can also make the loudest noises - we're always impressed that her little lungs can make so much noise.

Billy used to talk about everything. "Mom/Dad Lazlo looked at me funny!" "Mom/Dad, THERE'S A BIRD OUT THE WINDOW!" Now he doesn't talk as much - but he does sit in the middle of the living room at night after we're in bed and make a sad kind of Mrrrrrrrooooooooooowwwwwwwww when he wants someone to play with him. Flowerbelle and Ming Loy (his play buddies) do NOT come running.
We'll call out to him - and after a couple of back-and-forths, he'll usually come in here (and of course we've got wand toys at the ready).

Lazlo... he'll MEOW in this huge bellowing voice when he WANTS to be brushed. It's funny any time other than like 4:00am. He also communicates with aliens. We think he's an alien plant, and he's just reporting back to the mothership.

Dinner can be quite the chorus. (And "dinner" is our generic word for meal. We stopped free feeding, and now they get 4 "dinners" a day.
). Billy or Ming Loy start it. Ming Loy always announces to everyone there's food about. She gets SO excited and just runs around announcing that it's meal time to the rest.
Billy's just telling us to hurry up. Lazlo always joins in, and he's just doing the "hurry up" thing too. Shelly sometimes does as well. Between the four (or five) of them, it's quite the choir. Flowerbelle doesn't add her chirps, but she likes eating in the bathroom, and she stands on the toilet and pokes her head out and waves her paw around.

Tuxie and Chumley talk to say "HI." Chum says hi every morning. I don't know how to describe it, but it's the sweetest greeting.
I always walk over and headbump him and "brush" him with my head.

Tuxie - our tough, crazy, terrorist alpha kitty, has the girliest, squeekiest high-pitched meow that sounds like... OW. He bounces and pings around here like Ricochet Rabbit and will stop for a moment to say "HI!" er... that is "OW."

Spooky has a plaintive little mrrrow when she wants pets and we're not paying attention. But usually she talks just to complain (like when I pick her up or I'm not petting her "just so"), and it's just a very grumbly kind of noise.

Love all the talkative kitties!

Let's see...

Lucy cries when she wants out of the roommates room. She will "Mroooow!" louder and louder until he can't stand it anymore and lets her out. Other then that, she is pretty quiet.

Lennon Will meow incredibly loudly at the back door anytime anyone goes out it. Again, this is a loud, obnoxious "Mrrooooow!" Repeatedly, until someone comes back in. He also has random little chirps when he wants love, or if you are nearby but not WITH him.

Ringo cries to get in the bedroom, or out of the bedroom. He is usually quiet the rest of the time, though he does chirp for attention now and then.

Cats have many many unique vocalizations.. .I read somewhere they can make something like 100 different noises.

My two "talkers" really are Archie and Ghost. Archie also announces himself: Aaarooowww? ah-Raw-ooo. Sometimes it's rowroroworowowoowrrroooww.... And mrrph.. when he is frustrated.

Ghost makes very unusual noises - he squeaks, barks, meeps, trills, gurgles and uses a host of other vocalizations... often in sequence. When I call him he answers - "Eeep!" Sometimes he mades a sound that sounds like RIK-ik. Or RIK- eee.
When he is hungry it usually something like, "Heh, heeeh!!!!" And when I put his food down he says to me, "Ree...rrrrreh!" I presume that is G-talk for thank you!

Tex doesn't talk per ce, but has a very unusual voice in that his call is very nasal...nnnnnnnrrrroow...nnnrrrrow... and gets more insistent as I get closer and closer to putting his food dish on the floor.

Squishy is my loudest & he always has something to say! Eden also has a lot to say. Lily talks when she's annoyed. Twitch who is deaf hardly ever makes a peep, except to yodel when playing once in awhile. Ophelia who is also deaf screams bloody murder at the top of her lungs. She lives on her own, since she is unappreciative of other felines....however since Squishy is now living with her she no longer screams at night. Maybe because she has companionship w/o having the annoyance of someone wanting to play with her, or maybe because she screams at him during the day for getting too close to her.
Molly just squeaks, I've never heard her meow. She'll open her mouth as though to meow, but no sound comes out.

Lola is among my most talkative, as she's always trilling, meowing, or cooing about something.

Utu is usually very silent, but when he wants food he will give you this low and short, demanding 'meow'. When he gets his crazy moment, he will yowl and run around the house. It's not meant for me though.

Kuura likes to talk. A lot. If I do anything he will start meowing and circling around my feet. When he wants food he really lets you know it, also he has different 'commands' to humans if he wants to be spanked, played with, or wants something extra special like an insect which is flying around or his favourite toy.

Tomu talks to himself. He'll just randomly make some noises (can't really call it meowing because it doesn't sound like it
). He usually only speaks to people if he is displeased about something and will start arguing with you if you tell him not to do something.
His voice reminds me of Zed (Bob Goldthwait) from the Police Academy movies..

Luna is quite chatty too. She has funny little voice, sounds a bit like she's a smoker.
She comes to wake me up by licking my face and hands and meowing, she also follows me around and makes this funny 'rrrrrrrr' noice alot.

I think the better question would be "when does your cat not talk to you!"

Abby is such a chatter box! She's always talking to me.

And she has a wubbie (a pair of socks) that she will go and get and carry into whatever room I'm in, while meowing loudly and frantically, like she's lost, and drop them in the room and come lay down next to me. I think it's her way of announcing herself. Because she roams around meowing like she's lost, and I have to repeatedly call her name so she can find me.

She's such a silly girl!

Tolly talks to me all the time and Queen Eva, so silent at first, is emulating him more and more. Mazy speaks every time I look at her. Jennie speaks to me if I touch her or if we are having raptures.

Well, how do you think Meow got her name?
She is incredibly vocal. She greets everyone as they come home from work/college. She talks to us when she is hungry, when we have food, when she wants to play, when she wants you to stroke her...

Elliott talks back!
I'll scold him if he's being a bugger, and he is a brat and talks back!

Imhotep and I have conversations all the time. With the Siamese in him, he knows how to talk.

Pria and Azizi have this little chirping noise they do, especially when in their hyper moods.

Jake definitely does the mrrph too
It's so hilarious, he will do that when he wants to go outside, but he isn't allowed to go anymore since he learned how to climb the fence that the yard was enclosed with. So, he will sit by the door and meow and stare at me, first he will make a begging sort of meow and then when I say no, he will start to "argue" and eventually he does the mrrph and when I say no again he will argue some more

Also if someone steps on his tail he gets soo mad and you can tell he's yelling at you. It's not the kind of sad meow, it's more like "u better watch it !!!"

Penny says "mair!!" with a really bratty tone and scowl when I pick her up. Translation: Why do you insist on holding me? You know I don't like it!

She also follows me into the restroom and says "mrreh"
and "mair" (short and sharp) right before she plops down for a cat massage. The translation there is: I'm ready for my cat massage now. Make it a long one.

Daisy is like a mime. Doesn't say much at all. When she does speak, it sounds very babyish (high-pitched). I don't know what she's saying.

If Autumn's food bowl is empty she comes looking for me and gives me a small meow and will continue that till I stop whatever I'm doing and check on her food and sure enough it is empty.

Other times if I ignore her for too long being busy, she will make her presence known by coming to me and give me that meow and all I have to do is bend down and give her a hug or scratch and she walks away happy.

She is a very vocal kitty unlike my RB angel Misty. The cutest sounds come out of her and I have to laugh at some of them. She is sooooo demanding

Mostly I get, "Pay attention to me," noises. My cats are mostly quiet when I prepare their one canned food meal a day, though they are all there anxiously waiting. This surprises me because I had one for 18+ years who would yell at me the whole time I got any food out. I do get urgings to hurry up when divvying up the dry food twice a day. But they are pretty polite about it.

Lily just likes to talk and will walk around looking up at me, following, or more often leading me, around the house and telling me tales.

Harlow chirps a lot. He sees me in a chair, chirps, and jumps up to be beside me (not in my lap though).

Claude will ask to be let up the attic stairs. Also, he will tell me to hurry up with dinner. As big as he is, he has a sweet little voice.

My little Tonya, well I wasn't sure she had a voice for some time. Occasionally, like when she was in the carrier to go to the vet, there will be a plaintive little mew. Nothing else.

Ariel whines like she is being persecuted or hurt if you go over to her and try to touch her, or even get too close. (I do it anyway because I'm trying to desensitize her to this). She's quite irritable. Other times she'll sort of squawk if she wants food or gets locked on the wrong side of a door. Not a pretty voice, at all.

Maia is such a talker! She has become the little linguist
, If I ask her a question, she usually has an answer
. Most of all when I coming home I hear her meowing in excitement on the other side of the door, this can be even if I am gone for 20 minutes!

Jamie "talks" whenever he wants something: food, a walk, play, a door opened, combing. What's really sweet is that he always says "good night!" to me.
