Enlarged esophagus anyone have any information?

I took Midnight to the vet today mainly to have his eyes checked, because they were watery and 1 was dripping. This was a different vet because my vet is on vacation. I mentioned to her my concerns about Midnight having a UTI.

Midnight is 4 months old, she said she didn't think it's a UTI because she said Midnight is to young. She did test for it, and did give us an antibiotic to give him which would clear up the UTI if he has 1, also it would clear up the cold he's got.

She was more concerned about Midnight having a kidney problem. She did an x-ray, and his kidney's are fine.

But she showed us that something is wrong with Midnight's esophagus. It's enlarged and she didn't know why. She said she's never seen this before. She asked about any digestive problems. I told the only time he ever threw up is when we gave him tuna, and he hasn't had tuna since. He hiccups after every meal. He's done that since he was 3 weeks old. She wouldn't tell us how serious this is or isn't. She is going to send the x-ray to a vet who specialist, and we'll get a call with the results of what this is.

Has anyone else ever heard of this? Or have a cat with this?

Also another disturbing thing. Our original vet never tested Midnight for FIV or Leukemia! If he did he never put it in Midnight's records! We paid for him to have that test, and that vet even showed us the device that tells whether it's positive or negative.

I told that to this vet. I even described the device that I saw. She said she wasn't familiar with it, and didn't know what I was talking about. She showed me Midnight's records. The FIV and Leukemia test was missing.

I had to pay for it to be done again. I had to sit and worry even more this time. Worried that he did have leukemia and that would have been what Lynxx died of. I kept imagining having to lose both Midnight and Luna now as well. Luckily the test came back negative Midnight is fine there.

If you go to Esophageal Hypomotility (Megaesophagus) in this article
http://www.vin.com/VINDBPub/SearchPB...00/PR00115.htm
you may find some useful information.

I've been dealing with esophageal disease for, oh, about 9 months now, have done a lot of reading on it. It's a scary and frustrating problem.
I may or may not be able to offer you any helpful advice but, please, feel free to PM me if you'd like to talk anyway.

I also have a cat that has Mega E she's three years old now. She is a Best Friends Guardian Angel. http://www.bestfriends.org/guardiana...5FD941EDF91217

I'm surprised this hasen't come up before. How did she know the esophagus wa enlarged? Has Midnight been throwing up? Ususally cats with mega e throw up quite a bit and can not have any hard or chunky food.

I don't know if cats/kittens can acquire mega e. Sedona has had hers since birth. Its frustrating to say the least. She's doing awesome right now but little by little its taking a toll on her body (internally) which will eventually get the best of her.

Is Sedona your cat?

We took Midnight to the vet yesterday. He went because of an eye infection. I mentioned my concerns about him having a UTI. She didn't think he had a UTI she thought he had a kidney problem. She did an x-ray to see his kidneys. His kidneys are fine, his liver and stomach are fine. But the x-ray showed that Midnight has an enlarged esophagus. She said she's never seen this before, and couldn't tell us anything. She is going to send the x-ray to a specialist and they'll give us a call back this week.

Midnight has only thrown up once in his life. That was when we gave him tuna. He never got tuna again. He does have a lot of gas, which isn't as bad now as when we first got him. He does hiccup after every meal. That is something he's done since he was 3 weeks old.

yes Sedona is mine. About 6 months after I got her, I took her for accupuncture. It took 6 sessions but it finally did help alot. Its a daily struggle for both of us.

See Midnight doesn't have any problems. We didn't even know there was a problem until he was x-rayed for his kidneys. The regular vet we go to is still on vacation until tomorrow. We're going to try to call her and tell her what happened and have her look at the x-ray and tell us what's going on, because when it comes to eating, Midnight has no problems except he hiccups.
